I was surprised when we let him go without offering a new deal. If we'd have offered him a new contract we would have got compensation if he'd left, and if it went to tribunal we'd probably have got add-ons too.
In one year since being released he was named Birmingham young player of the season, given the Birmingham captaincy, and then moved for £1m to promotion rivals managed by a Premier League legend who has apparently been following Adeyemi since he was in the Under 18's. He is still only 22. That fee is considered a steal by Birmingham and Cardiff fans.
Probably leading contender to become "the one that got away", could become to us - to a lesser degree - what Jordan Rhodes is to Ipswich.
