Bassong rumour.

Yeah, I think Turner is a great guy to have at this level, with the amount of powerful forwards, his ability in the air is needed.

I'd agree that Turner is better but I don't think they're miles apart. Bennett still has time to develop of course but for that he really has to be playing. I remember thinking that we had a future captain on our hands when he was in the team a couple of seasons ago.

I think he'll force his way into the starting 11 this season.

Bassong and Turner would be great, with R. Bennett and Cuellar as back-up.

Even if we do sign Carlos, we need another CB, in my opinion. (Martin should NOT be playing CB)

Bassong is off, we need to use the money we have to get a top class replacement.

Apologies, I meant that Bassong and Tuner would have been great!

Agree, we need another CB even if we sign Cuellar, to replace Bassong

I'd still rather Adams finds a way to get him under control. Once upon a time he was an £8m centre back, which was because at rock bottom he's very talented. Just needs to grow up a bit.

Well they were great even as recent as the first half of last season. We got 12 clean sheets.

Ryan Bennett started 14 league games last season, and we kept a clean sheet in 5 of them.

So if we kept 12 clean sheets total then....

We kept a clean sheet in 42% of games that Ryan Bennett started.

We kept a clean sheet in 29% of games that Ryan Bennett didn't start.

Bennett seems a confidence player. If he's good enough to deal with the strikers, it'll be usually a clean sheet, no mistakes, no lost duels, he looks like a £10m player. When a striker gets the better of him, he looks like a walking disaster though!

I really think he needs a proper chance, an extended run in the team. He has always been in one week, out the next, for the entire two and a half years that he has been here. I'm not sure how you are supposed to become consistent without somebody just showing faith and letting you get on with it.

I really like him as a player, aggressive and dominant in the air, think he could be like Ryan Shawcross for us.

I wonder what Adams is thinking because we've tied him down on a long term deal but he isn't first choice - but he is a similar type of player to Michael Turner, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Perhaps the hope for Bennett is that he will go on to replace Turner, but isn't seen as the ideal partner for Turner because they are too similar.

Easy to forget that Bennett was only 24 in March because he has played played something like 270 competitive games already, I think he remains a fantastic prospect.

I really hope that the gaffer gives Bennett an extended run now, one of the most naturally gifted players we have at the club in my opinion.

I'm not totally opposed to Bennett (while not his biggest fan) BUT, he must stop stepping up with the ball and thinking his passing is better than it is. Because he gives it away a lot. As a "traditional" CB, if you like, he's alright. Good in the air for sure.

This is the Wiz that we all have yearned for. Reasonable and sensible statements of the back of intelligent analysis. Long may it last.

He was a large part of the reason that the Pink Un boards descended into a pathetic circle-jerk of petty squabbling and insults. I do hope it doesn't happen to this place, too.

Guys, this isn't the Pinkun, whatever happened there was forgotten. Fresh slate for everyone, and as nobody is disrupting anything here, there's no need to make an issue of it.

100% agree old mate.

I feel so much better with both R Benno in at Centre-back, and Tettey in front of him.

I know a few don't rate Bennett, but personally, I'd pick him ahead of all bar possibly Turner. That includes Bassong when he was 'playing for us'.

Relax my friend, this site gives me the chance to be the wiz I've always wanted to be and I don't intend mucking it up.

And has behaved himself just fine on this site, which is all that matters here. Pink'un beef can stay on the Pink'un.

My personal choice across the back (when fit) would be:

Martin  Turner  Bennett  Garrido.

Having Bassong as back up really looks an attractive proposition imo.

Garrido over Olsson?
