Beating Reading could relegate us!

I'm kinda hoping that beating Reading, along with some new ideas from Phelan, will be the spur that will push us on towards promotion.

We're not out of contention yet, and if I'm honest before the season started I would have been happy with 6th - 10th at this stage of the season and loitering-with-intent close to the play-off places at Christmas.

I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that our performances and form started to deteriorate when Neil started wearing the white jumper.  If anything is going to relegate us, it'll be his choice in knitwear.  It makes him look too chubby and cuddly.

I never intended to use this thread as a 'look at me'  type thread, I intended it as an illustration that, just like the Hughton era, a victory for City now, however much needed, would only gloss over the previous 9 abysmal games under Adams stewardship.

Many have accused the Board of dragging their heels over the sacking of CH, and this might well be the case again with Adams imo, the poll results on this site appears to reinforce this argument.

But I must re-emphasise, no mischief was ever intended whilst writing this thread, only concern for our club was my motive.

All we are saying is give Wiz a chance!

Difference is, Lamberts side was scraped together with players from league 1 and it was honed into togetherness. Adams side has way more quality on paper but they don't appear to be able to turn that quality into results. It's debatable whether it's tactics or desire but it's some combo of them.

Whilst this would be good to see, I really think our chances of auto promotion are extremely low now. Playoffs possibly but the most likey scenario for me is championship for next season. Let's hope things improve but cannot see it with this current set up I'm afraid.

I am struggling to see what's wrong with this thread?

For me, it simply made me think back to last season and the situation we are now in compared to then, and also think about the two Manager's and their abilities.

When the West Ham match was the topic, at that time I genuinely felt that CH had a great chance, and the ability to achieve my, at that time minimum expectation.......survival.........and I think many others had a similar view.

But right now, my minimum expectation, having moved from automatic promotion, is promotion through the play-off's......and I genuinely feel that under NA ......THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN !! .......even considering the great squad AND MIchael Phelan........BUT, I am desperate to be proved wrong!!

I think, regardless of which side of the in/out fence one sits, what we can all agree on is that as a club we can't stagger from one game to the next and end up in a situation where the outcome of a single match will determine the fate of the manager.

Thinking back to last season I was one of those that would have liked to have thanked Chris Hughton for his services around Christmas and, failing that, stuck with him, and backed him, until the end of the season.  As a club we didn't do this - we lurched from defeat to 'vital game' to defeat again and the whole thing dragged on.  When it all got too much, and the crowd finally turned, it was too late to do anything (barring the hoped-for 'dead-cat' bounce away to Fulham.)

At present we aren't adrift of the automatic promotion spots - and a run of good results will see us back at the summit.  If, however, a good run of results doesn't happen then at Christmas(ish) it's time to say goodbye to Adams.  I can see, and understand, that some will disagree and say that by waiting we are inviting doom.  I just don't believe in knee-jerk reactions when things aren't great, but also not that bad.

My index, as some will have noticed, is a comparison with our last season in the Championship under Lambert. After 18 games we have the same number of points that we had then. I remember thinking back then that the chance of automatic promotion had gone, but that team drew the next two matches and still went on to gain automatic promotion. They didn't really get going until January. I'm not saying that it will happen, but simply that it can. We now have better players and if Mike Phelan can help sort out the problems we could have a good run of results and get back on the promotion track.
