Is it just me that's massively excited to have him at the club? Imo best all round striker we've had since Ashton. Quality finisher, quick, athletic and powerful, yes I do think he's better than Holt was a a player (tho not having Holt's leadership role).

Still can't wuite believe we picked him up so cheaply.

Probably more talented than Holt, but he'll probably never have a season anywhere near as good as BGHs first three. The stars aligned and he was untouchable.

Proven at this level. I doubt if he will be a starter if we go up. And agree with Splutcho about Holt. Holt probably got us up from L1 on his own and Lambert gets the credit but Gunn bought him.

I agree it is frustrating, but he knows the offside rule, not responding to balls when in an offside position.

But he was only offisde twice with 5 other players we also offside at some stage it suggests the club has a problem.

I get he does need to work back a little faster - but his work rate was good yest and he at least defends from the front well.   I would also blame the passers,   much of the time it is clear he IS coming back from and is still in an offside position yet they still target him - use a footballing brain please team...

However if whits is the least of Neils worries I am not sure this one gets to his radar...

Sorry Z...he was offside way more than twice...as you say he was aware of that and didn't make an effort to get to the ball...but that doesn't help us much. I agree with you that he should have been back much much quicker for subsequent phases of play

I also agree with you about the quality of balls forward...But where is the passing flair with Whittaker and Johnson in the key positions?

I would have liked to have seen Redmond try to be the target a bot more...with his pace he would afford to give the Brentford defence a yard and still have made it with ease...then leaving Cameron free to turn and join the next phase...

I thin the comment about Whitts being the least of his worried was intended for the rest of his players tbh...his point was Whittaker was out of his normal, position and it didn't work...the others were in their preferred positions and were not much better...

AN has a reputation of taking no nonsense,..yesterday's performance was nonsense...looking,forward to seeing what happens now?

Going back to the OP, Jerome excites me as well. He's been a revelation and has settled in well with Hooper since he came in. Both are more than capable of playing in the PL if we were to go up. I still think we need to add an AM to get the most out of them. I had hoped Odjidja-Ofoe would be capable of that, but we've hardly seen him because of injuries.

I'd agree with all of that. Excellent player, and all-round a better player than Grant Holt. That said I don't think his finishing is as good as Holty's.

He is a good player no doubt, but I have yet seen him play and thought that it was like having two players on the pitch......and thats what Grant Holt was like often, like having two players for the price of one, thats how much impact he had on a game....a nuisance for the CB's throughout the game...Cameron for me has some way to go to achieve anything like the great Grant Holt.....but a good player and excellent signing no doubt.

Struggling to understand the Jerome love in.  Scored a few - always a good sign - but overall his contributions in the games I have seen have been limited in terms of overall play.  His strike rate is not great - he misses too many.  Grabban gets canned when he misses or fails to score, Jerome doesn't - and I don't know why that is.  Jerome is not the clinical striker that Holt is/was and doesn't contribute half as much as Holt did in a match so to compare the two is a bit of an insult imo.  Holt at his best was unplayable. Jerome at his best is a 50/50 striker and will miss as many as he will score - that has been the story of his career.

I hope he scores a few more and I can genuinely get excited about him, but atm, he is just part of an underperforming and inconsistent side.

I think you forget that Holt invariably had a partner. In fact one of his gripes about Hughton was that he was expecting to to take that role. If Lambert wanted a lone striker it was left to Morision.Jerome does have to play a lone role at times.

Yes Holt probably was more of an MVP for us while he was here but Jerome is probably our best player at the moment.

Holt was sometimes a one man team.  Could score, cross from either wing (the goal in the championship against Swansea at CR and Morison's goal at Villa in the 2-3 as prime examples)  He would bully opposing defenders, pop up on the goal line in defence, lead the attack and be captain fantastic as well.

If Jerome is our best player, then the rest need to up their game to at least match him, but the player that's impressed me the most this season is Tettey.

We were fortunate to have Grant Holt for his three best seasons in the game and for that three seasons the man was a machine, completely unplayable, there is no point in comparing any of our strikers with Grant Holt because we'll never have one quite the same.

But I'm a fan of Jerome's, pace and power and got some goals in him. For the £1.5m we paid for him he's a bargain. Gary Hooper is our most natural goalscorer though.

To be fair LDC, perhaps you do not see Jerome hunting down defenders when they are in possession, and forcing keepers to clear earlier than they would like.

He does a very similar job as Holt did, in that respect. He has more pace than Holt. He has better technique than Holt, and has played more top flight games than Holt. Jerome is an excellent player to have at this level.

I do love Grant Holt btw!

I am a massive fan of GH from his time with us but I think some people are remembering him with rose-tinted specs.  He missed plenty too.  i think Jerome makes a bigger overall impact and his pace allows him to harry defenders which has won us quite a few goals this season - GH was never quick enough to do that.  So as a striker I rate him marginally above GH - that's my opinion.

Jeromes contribution is good;  he does defend from the front,  harries the opponent and is often the player clear our defended corners.

He links well (header setting up grabbans late chance for example) and his goals contribution makes him currently our best striker.

No complaints about Jerome whatsoever, and it is entitely unfair trying to compare him to Grant Holt.

I must admit, I wasn't happy at all when we first bought Jerome in. Looking at his scoring record previously he has never really been prolific unless you go back to the 2005/06 season where he got 20 for Cardiff in the Championship.

However this season is already ranked his second highest scoring season ever, so can't complain at all! I'm happy to eat my words on that one! I'm not sure about the GH comparisons trying to be made though. As said before, GH bought a lot more tot he team than goals, assists and his general play. He was a leader who lifted the players and the fans. Jerome simply isn't that...

If we hadn't signed Jerome, we'd be down with Cardiff, Fulham, Wigan and Reading now.
