Hi guys, with the game coming up on Saturday ( i hate a fortnight without football!) i'm really looking forward to this game. We've been asking opposition fans some questions before every game this season, with some really good replies. I like to get to know a little bit more about each team we play and see things from their point of view. With this in mind, if you could take the time to answer i would be grateful.


1. What are your thoughts on manager Neil Adams, and have they changed at all since he was appointed? What do you see as his strengths and weaknesses and do you believe he is the man to take you back to the Premier League?

2.You appear to have spent quite a bit of money this season, bringing in quite a few centre backs.  How happy are you with your transfer activity, and do you expect to see anyone come in on loan?

3. Lewis Grabban has got off to a flyer this season, Cardiff had a bid accepted for him before he moved to you, it sounds obvious considering he's scored 5 goals, but how happy are you with his overall performance, and do you think he's better suited to a lone role or playing alongside someone (possibly Jerome?)

4. Has Bradley Johnsons importance to your team increased somewhat with Snodgrass leaving? is he the first name on your team sheet or do you think the likes of Howson and O'Neill will eventually be preferred?

5. We recently signed Pilkington from you, putting his injury issues aside for a second, just how good a player is he? we have craig noone back (hopefully for Saturday, if not then the next game) and i cannot see us playing 2 out and out wingers. Would you have preferred to keep him? or was he only good in short bursts?

6. You have a lot of well known names in your squad, but who are the up-and-comers that we wouldnt have heard of? You won the Youth Cup in 2013, who from that side is going to be a future star?

7. What are your opinions or Cardiff? as a club, players, fans, manager etc. and if you could have one of our players in your side, who would you pick and why?

8. what is your predicted starting line up for the game, and what do you think the score will be?

1. Adams was not inspiring in the last 5 games of last season but has started this season well,  reinstilled some confidence,  focused on attacking play, unified the squad while keeping a large proportion of last seasons prem players.   Its far too soon to tell but feeling more confident now witha the close season behind him than I was in May. 

2.  I think we have bought and sold well - losing players on relegatin was inevitable and we have bought young up and coming talent for the future supplemented with some experience for this year.    The squad feels better balanced with competition for places.   Other than for injuries the only loan I can see could be for a striker where the options are thinnest - the rest looks like a solid summer for us.

3. He has a selfish streak which is what you want for a striker, and 5 says teh current system is working well - so a lone role seems to suit him well.   He lacks a little quality for me in his hold and link up play,  and my first impression is he is a better instinctive finisher than when he has time to consider his options - he could have have had more than 5.    

4. There is no BJ / Snodgrass comparison.    Losing Snoddy means we have a more balanced attacking approach rather than funnelling all our efforts predictably down the right flank.   BJs partnership with Tettey has been the platform for our success so far,   but he does need a solid player alongside him in the def mid role.  Tettey is the more influential for me. The signing of Vadis O_O and O'Neil will  put BJs spot under threat but if he continues to play as he has then the role remains his.

5.  If fit he is good enough to be the leagues best player.   That is a big if.   Last season was particularly bad for him injury wise - a move was the right thing and if he recaptures his appetite and form will be a big player for you.

6.  Josh Murphy is the stand out youngster from that cup winning side direct pacy England U20 winger,   and Declan Rudd is a top keeper waiting to shine in the coming seasons.   Jamal Loza is a fantastic striking prospect that will appear  this season.   We have signed 18yo Conor McGrandles from Falkirk who is exciting the club and may appear later in the season.   We do have other talented youngsters but expect them to go on loan to lower league clubs following the summer strengtening (Gafaiti as a cb,  and Jacob Murphy in particular)   

7.  Peter Whittingham would be my pick;    relatively neutral about cardiff overall although Malkys mismanagment is stunning (making tan seem like the victim is top notch work) and a bullet dodged for us.  

8.  So many new faces its easy to see Vadis O_O or Hooiveld starting but I suspect we will be unchanged from bournemouth;  Ruddy,  Whittaker, Martin, Turner Garrido; Tettey, Johnson;  Redmond,  Hoolahan, Lafferty,  Grabban in a 4231 that suits us and a close 1-1 draw.

I was a little unsure of Adams but the positivity and good feeling he has brought back on and off the field is very apparent and it's showing in performances and results.  I've grown to fear going on the road in recent seasons but I actually think we have a chance of turning you over (and others this month)

With our player sales and saving on wages through loans our actual NET spend isn't too excessive

Grabban doing well leading the line, but when Gary Hooper is fit I see him as the main goal threat

Soon as Howson is fit he gets into my team, Johnson is effective at this level but I just think Howson is better

Pilks was great when he was fit.....it just wasn't all that often in the last 18months

1. Most of us were underwhelmed when Adams was appointed, but he brought in good assistants and managed a very good pre-season and transfer window, building up an excellent squad. He has brought attacking football back to City, and very successfully as well. Most of us are much more impressed with him now.

2. Having lost Snodgrass (who wouldn't have fitted Adams' style) and loaned out RvW as well as selling Fer to QPR and  Pilks to you, he has used the money very wisely to build an excellent and deep squad.

3. Grabban has been excellent, using his pace and goal-scoring abilities to excellent effect.

4. Both Johnson and Tettey have been excellent so far, but will now have competition from Odjidja, Howson and McGrandles. Our mid-field is looking very strong now.

5. Pilks can be an excellent player on his day, but unfortunately they haven't come around very often in the past two years, mainly due to being in and out of the squad with injuries. He's still a good player, but needs to keep fit.

6. Josh Murphy is the first youth player to come through strongly on the left wing with bags of pace. His twin, Jacob Murphy is not far behind and plays on the right wing.

7. I've always liked Cardiff, and have a good friend in Wales who supports you, so there'll be a lot of e-mail banter this week! As for players, I've always liked Whittingham and Noone might be another, but then we don't need any more players at the moment!

Don't have time to answer all your questions now, but on Pilks, my view is that he could be a quality player, the injury problems are obvious, but he could also go missing in games sometimes even when fit.  I'll try to post about the other points later.

How do your fans feel about the game ? 

Last season our feeling was that you were very much looking to keep things tight and avoid conceding against us in both games, with Marshall playing a blinder, & you were let off the hook by our toothless attack.  Was that how you saw it? 

How has your team changed since relegation - do you feel confident about going straight back up ?

Agree with the above comments re Pilks, on his day he is a game winner/changer. Trouble was for us those days did not come round too often. But get him on form and consistent and you potentially have a very good player.

If we could have one of your players I would go for Noone. Likely to be one of the stars of this division and when he turns it on unplayable.

Of the youth squad we also have Carlton Morris. Who is a big striker, got quite a lot of the goals in the youth cup run. He is serving his time on loans at the moment but hopefully will break through for us in a year or two.

1. So far I have been very impressed with Neil Adams. He sounds like a winner just from the interviews he does, and is clearly very passionate about Norwich. Hard to judge him too much but with the exception of our opening day game against Wolves, we've been very good this season and have played some nice football. I was very sceptical, and would go as far to say disappointed when Adams was appointed. But so far  at least he has done everything right. One of his main strengths is being able to develop players from our youth academy, and turn them into first team players. Which he has already done with Josh Murphy, and a lot of other younger players are looking very good. Hard to tell really apart from that what his strengths and weaknesses are, because we're so early on in his managerial career, but he has said in his interviews that he prides himself on his tactical nous. 

2. Very happy with our transfer business. We've got great money for the big players that have left (Snodgrass £8m, Fer £10m), and have seemingly replaced them well. Getting Lewis Grabban for £3m as well, when you compare him to to the likes of Ulloa, and McCormack who left their clubs for much higher fees, is superb signing. The only real 'bad' bit of business we did was letting Pilkington leave to you lot. If he'd gone to a Premier League team I wouldn't mind, but to sell him to a Championship rival was quite disappointing. Overall though, very happy.

3. Grabban has looked great so far. All you can ask your striker to do is score goals, and he is certainly doing that. The only real criticism is that he does tend to miss a few as well. He could've easily had a hat-trick against Ipswich but only managed to get one. But he works hard off the ball, is prepared to run the lines, and is currently joint top scorer in the league, so you can't really argue. So far he has been playing upfront by himself, and has looked relatively comfortable, but I think he could play just as well up top with one of our strikers. And considering we have a lot of good options up front (Hooper, Lafferty, Jerome), I think we will definitely see that at some point on the season, which will be very interested.

4. Usually Howson would be first choice, ahead of Johnson, but he has been injured all season so far, and it is not clear when he will return. We have recently signed Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, who comes with a very good reputation, and could replace Johnson in the first team before too long. That said though Johnson on the whole has started well, and scored 2 great goals in our first 2 home games. I wouldn't say his importance to us has increased with Snodgrass leaving though, as they played different positions and we have the quality in the squad to replace him anyway. I also wouldn't say he's the first name on the team sheet, but he's a good player at this level. I think he will in the end he will be forced out by Howson or Odjidja-Ofoe, but for the time being he's in the team and if he impresses then there's no reason why he should be taken out of it.

5. On his day Pilkington is as good as any winger from any bottom half Premier League team, which is what we saw in his first season with us. But since then injuries have effected him more and more, and last season he had pretty much no impact on games when he played. I would've much preferred us to keep him, as he could be a quality player if he was to stay fit, particularly in this league, and I was very disappointed that we sold him to you.

6. Josh Murphy is the main up and coming youngster that we have. He's an England under 20's international, and is showing a lot of promise. There are quite a few fans calling for him to replace Redmond in the starting line-up, which says a lot. He's impressed when he's come off the bench in games, and scored 2 very good goals in the cup against Crawley. He has massive potential and is definitely a future star. His twin brother Jacob Murphy is also another young player with a lot of potential, as well as Jamar Loza, Carlton Morris (who's currently on loan at Oxford), as well as two new signings Conor McGrandles and Louis Thompson, are also promising. 

7. I have no doubt that Cardiff will be up there come the end of the season. Have a very talented squad, and haven't started badly either. Was never totally convinced by the appointment of Solskjaer, but he has signed some good players at least in the transfer window, and I think it will be down to him whether you succeed or fail. If I had to pick a player I'd probably pick Daehli, mainly because we don't have too many wingers, but on the whole he's looked very impressive so far. Whittingham is one that I've always admired as well.

Prediction: Gonna go with 1-1. Hard one to predict as I think this will be a very close game, that could go either way. Just hope that we can play some good attacking football, and defend well as we have done for the majority of this season. If we do that then we stand a good chance of winning.

Not going to lie, I was disappointed when he was appointed (I'm also a poet) and was vocal about it. The last 5 games of last season under him were absolutely dire and some of the performances/tactics were very naive, which I guess you expect from a new manager. I'd say that naivety could still be considered a weakness, given the bizarre appearance of "the diamond" in our first game this season. I'm glad to say he's shut me up though. Some excellent signings and he also appears to be getting the best of the players he inherited. Early days of course, but I think he's the man for the job now.

2.You appear to have spent quite a bit of money this season, bringing in quite a few centre backs.  How happy are you with your transfer activity, and do you expect to see anyone come in on loan?

It looks to me like we're going for it this year. It's no secret that promotion is only going to get harder the longer you spend here and the manager and the board seem to get that. Very happy with our transfer activity overall and would be quite happy to have nobody in on loan, barring injuries forcing our hand.

Funnily enough, his overall game hasn't been fantastic. His first touch and general control can leave a bit to be desired, but then, if he keeps banging them in, I don't think anyone will care.

4. Has Bradley Johnsons importance to your team increased somewhat with Snodgrass leaving? is he the first name on your team sheet or do you think the likes of Howson and O'Neill will eventually be preferred?

Nah, totally different players, different positions and different jobs. I have a feeling he may be the first name on the team sheet for Neil Adams, but his midfield partner Alex Tettey is a far, far better player and will be more important for us this season if he stays fit.

5. We recently signed Pilkington from you, putting his injury issues aside for a second, just how good a player is he? we have craig noone back (hopefully for Saturday, if not then the next game) and i cannot see us playing 2 out and out wingers. Would you have preferred to keep him? or was he only good in short bursts?

If he's fit, and on form, he could be the difference for you winning the league and getting play offs. He can be that good. The chances of you seeing that form for more than 5 games out of 46 however, are slim to none. When you do take injuries into account, £2 million for a player with a year left on his contract was fantastic business for us.

6. You have a lot of well known names in your squad, but who are the up-and-comers that we wouldnt have heard of? You won the Youth Cup in 2013, who from that side is going to be a future star?

Both of the Murphy twins, Jacob and Josh, have played for various levels internationally and though Josh seems to be advancing quicker at present, they have the talent and the sky's the limit. But I think as a club we need to temper our expectations with young players. It's very easy to get carried away with them, and everyone wants to see the local lads do well. I trust in the management to decide when the right time is for our youth.

7. What are your opinions or Cardiff? as a club, players, fans, manager etc. and if you could have one of our players in your side, who would you pick and why?

I like them. I spent a good couple of years of my life backwards and forwards from Cardiff and met plenty of fans, went to a few games. There was a time when I'd look for their results as almost a second team. I thought Solskjaer was an extremely strange choice last year, but it'd be a bit hypocritical for us to be too damning about a relatively inexperienced manager. As for players, I haven't paid too much attention to who you have playing for you for a while, but I used to have a lot of time for Whittingham. Classy player. Used to rate Hudson too. He still any good?

1. What are your thoughts on manager Neil Adams, and have they changed at all since he was appointed? What do you see as his strengths and weaknesses and do you believe he is the man to take you back to the Premier League?

He has exceeded my expectations so far. I think some of the pessimism about his appointment was prejudiced by times in the past when we've gone for the 'cheap option', by recruiting internally. Our history shows us that this can go very well (Stringer, Walker, Worthington) or very wrong (Deehan, Hamilton, Gunn). Though early days, he has so far exceeded expectations (we tend to start seasons slowly), and the appointment makes much more sense to me now than it did in June. My choice was Malky Mackay, and I'm now relieved that we didn't get him. 

2.You appear to have spent quite a bit of money this season, bringing in quite a few centre backs.  How happy are you with your transfer activity, and do you expect to see anyone come in on loan?

I'm expecting more outgoings than incomings in the loan window, the new arrivals have pushed some promising youngsters too far down the pecking order and we should be looking to loan them out to League One or League Two. I personally think that we are a wide player short after the departures of Anthony Pilkington, Andrew Surman, and Robert Snodgrass. I think I'd like the club to try and bring in a winger to allow Jacob Murphy back out on loan (Josh Murphy's twin brother, and a decent young player himself). Mark Bunn the goalkeeper is looking for football too and has been pushed to #3 after the return of Declan Rudd, so expect to see him get a loan somewhere.

He looks look a great signing for £3m, looks like a striker who can create his own chances and tends to score his goals from the edge of the box or just outside it. So far we've only really seen him play as a lone striker, so no idea whether he would be better in a front two. What I would say though is that there have been a couple of games where we've looked like we have needed a fox in the box type, and Grabban isn't really one of those strikers who busts a gut to get into the 6 yard box to try and get on the end of every cross. That player will of course be Gary Hooper when he returns from injury. I think Grabban had a goal drought last season, despite scoring 22 goals, so it will be important for us to use all of our strikers. 

4. Has Bradley Johnsons importance to your team increased somewhat with Snodgrass leaving? is he the first name on your team sheet or do you think the likes of Howson and O'Neill will eventually be preferred?

Johnson and Snodgrass are just completely different players, who play in completely different positions. The competition for Johnson's spot as our defensive midfielder / anchor man is Alex Tettey and Gary O'Neil. Many Norwich fans consider Tettey the better player, but he gets quite a lot of injuries and Johnson has had a cracking start to the season. I personally love Johnson and consider himself a very important member of the squad, always gives 100% even when heads are down, and is good at the job that he is given (breaking up play). Howson is a cracking player but is not a defensive midfielder, was often played too deep by Hughton but is better when he has license to get forward.

We recently signed Pilkington from you, putting his injury issues aside for a second, just how good a player is he? we have craig noone back (hopefully for Saturday, if not then the next game) and i cannot see us playing 2 out and out wingers. Would you have preferred to keep him? or was he only good in short bursts?

I can answer the question "Just how good a player was he", and the answer would be excellent. He was a Premier League winger, he scored lots of Premier League goals and for his first 18 months looked like he could end up having moving up a bit to somebody like Everton. The question "Just how good a player is he", well who knows. The £2m that you have paid for him represents a gamble for you, and giving him a new three year deal would have been a gamble for us. If he hadn't have succumbed to fitness (and possibly motivation) problems over the past season and a half, perhaps it would have been Pilkington moving to Hull for £7m instead of Snodgrass. He is one of those players who often rises to the occasion, so wouldn't be surprised if he scores against us on Saturday. 

6. You have a lot of well known names in your squad, but who are the up-and-comers that we wouldnt have heard of? You won the Youth Cup in 2013, who from that side is going to be a future star?

Josh Murphy looks like the biggest prospect and some have started a bit of a Murphy vs Redmond debate, the striker Jamar Loza also a real prospect. Two real live wires. We have just signed an 18 year old from Falkirk for £1m who is said to be a quality little player, Conor McGrandles, but we haven't seen him yet. If we move up the ages a bit we have Declan Rudd the goalkeeper, who is 23 now but has done exceptionally well on loan at Preston for a season and a half and is now our #2 keeper. If we were to lose John Ruddy, I'd consider him good enough to take the #1 shirt.

7. What are your opinions or Cardiff? as a club, players, fans, manager etc. and if you could have one of our players in your side, who would you pick and why?

I've grown to respect Cardiff fans more in recent years for the ongoing struggle against the red shirts and the 'rebrand', and the two hours that you spent singing "Don't sack Mackay" at Anfield after the game (however misguided that looks now), always love passionate fans, Newcastle fans can conduct Mike Ashley protests whilst wearing advertising Wonga - I have a feeling that Cardiff fans wouldn't tolerate 'Wonga' on their shirts either, I'd like to think that Norwich fans wouldn't. You had Bellamy for a couple of years too of course, and he is well liked by Norwich fans - started here of course, and has only ever said good things about our club in interviews, pretty much credits the club for keeping him on the straight and narrow when he was a teenager. If I could have any one Cardiff player I'd have Tom Adeyemi back, never should have released him.

8. What is your predicted starting line up for the game, and what do you think the score will be?

With numerous late signings, and not knowing the status of players who were close to fitness or injury doubts before the international break, I think that guessing the team is an impossible task. We've had quite a consistent line up since the start of the season but weren't at our best against Bournemouth and people like Jerome and O'Neill haven't started a game yet, it wouldn't surprise me if Adams mixes things up completely. Not a clue!

This site is very new so our Google rankings leave a lot to be desired, think we are still only page 3 on Google for 'Norwich City forum', but we've been found by a couple of away fans recently. 

I've been working on SEO and have created a few social media profiles, if you can remember how you found the site that would be really useful. I suspect you will say Twitter or Bing?

I was quietly pleased when he got the job, mainly because the other candidates who appeared to be in the frame (Mackay and Lennon) didn't inspire me at all. They seemed very unlikely to bring exciting football back to the club and really didn't fit with the restructuring noises being made by the board. Needless to say he has so far exceeded many peoples expectations, including mine. I thought we would be lucky to get more than 6 or 7 points from these opening fixtures as it was a tough start and I was worried if that did happen people would get on his back. Now it's a non issue. He's learning the game as a manager at this level but has shown a lot more tactical nous this season so far, he has also brought in some good players to replace those departing. It's not a weakness per se  but we have yet to see how he will deal with keeping all these players happy, he hasn't rotated much so far.

Very pleased. Mainly happy we kept players like Turner, Ruddy, Olsson, Howson, Hoolahan, Redmond, Hooper and Tettey. Although we really need to get the latter's contract tied up otherwise it was really important these guys stayed and ones reaching end of contracts signed new deals. Outside of that Grabban has scored 5 in 5, you can't complain about that when we needed goals. Lafferty looks good, lots of energy but also clever play. Jerome is a sensible buy, target man with pace. Cuellar and O'neil bring much needed experience to a young side, McGrandles and Miquel are good squad players with potentially bright futures (Much like Thompson who is a real coup for a Championship club and a sensible move to loan him back), Hooiveld will dominate in this league much like Turner. Then there is Odjidja-Ofoe, has the potential to be a steal and a brilliant signing, we'll see, quietly optimistic but our last big coup from abroad didn't exactly go to plan...

As others have said, he has made mistakes, definitely doesn't look totally the finished article, control, decision making and finishing all questionable at times, but he is lightning quick and puts in loads of effort which often gets him out of his slight errors. Most importantly he scores goals, some maybe a bit lucky but you employ him to score and so far he has done that, long may it continue. I think he will get played in different positions this year so we are yet to truly see what his best position is. He would probably be best employed as a wide forward in the front 3 if you wanted to include Hooper or Jerome, but while he is scoring 1 a game I don't think he'll get displaced from the centre slot anytime soon.

As others stated no relevance to Snodgrass apart from if you just mean a midfielder that scores important goals. Definitely not first name usually, but on current form? again can't see him being displaced anytime soon. He looks much better in this league with that extra little bit of time on the ball. Big selection headaches inbound for the manager which is great.

Happy to see him leave personally, he is injured, a lot. Potential to be a top top player if he can play consistently, but thats the problem, when he comes back in after injury he always looks behind the curve and we haven't seen the player we bought and terrorised PL defences in our first season for some time. You either have a bargain or have wasted your money and you'll have to wait and find out which it is i suppose.

As others said Murphy twins Josh and Jacob are the big potential players. Josh in particular looks on the fringe of a starting berth but maybe a bit too raw yet, Jacob doesn't seem to have shown quite the same potential as his brother so far but they both have loads of time. Loza is another with a lot of potential, but with so many strikers/wide players to occupy the front lines i doubt he will get many chances. Declan Rudd is a great young keeper and if Ruddy was injured I would feel confident of him stepping up. Theres a fair few of the youth team in and around the first team squad. Personal one to keep an eye on is McGeehan, he is only 19 but was the lynch pin of that youth midfield, pings balls around like Gerard and has a great attitude. He's a little too young and lightweight to be displacing Johnson anytime soon but in a couple of years I hope to see him in the side regularly.

Hmm..tainted by your owner unfortunately, seems bat *bleep* crazy! It's also sad to see a club lose some of it's identity in the pursuit of premiership anonymity. I have no animosity to your fans or club but seeing you guys makes me all the gladder we have true fans on the board in charge of the clubs finances and direction. Can we have Adeyemi back please? still don't understand why we ever let him go.

This site is very new so our Google rankings leave a lot to be desired, think we are still only page 3 on Google for 'Norwich City forum', but we've been found by a couple of away fans recently. 

I've been working on SEO and have created a few social media profiles, if you can remember how you found the site that would be really useful. I suspect you will say Twitter or Bing? 

neither im afraid, it was from a thread over on your guys other forum. there seems to be a paralell between our clubs in this regard, as our forum is a relatively new one as  well, though the reason most of us left the old one is probably somewhat different, but i wont go into that :lol:

The guy who runs our site has done a magnificent job to be fair, though even then there are 2 established cardiff forums so new members are coming in drips.

On the question how happy I am with Grabban, I would say of course very happy but he's probably quite disappointed with himself. That might sound bizarre when he's scored 5 in 5 but he's missed a few he should have put away and I've heard he's big on self-reflection and self-improvement so it wouldn't surprise me if he's been studying his performances, put in some extra training and ends up getting a couple against Cardiff.

For Pilkington he hasn't really made any impact since his first season, but that was under a manager and in a team where any attacking player (including Steve Morison) could have made an impact. I think we've sold you a dud and thought it was hilarious how enthusiastic you lot were about the signing.
