Cardiff Sign Pilkington

Not surprised and not unhappy. His performances have gone steadily downhill since his first season when he looked to be a very good attacking player. Let the team down on most occasions when picked last season. His last performance of note was Chelsea at home. Not good enough. Clearly needs a fresh start somewhere new.

Continually frustrated me over his time as he did not seem willing to run at people when he appeared to have the beating of his man, as evidenced several times against 'best fullback of his generation' Ashley Cole.

He won't score against us, he'll be injured.

One source claims fee not revealed which I find more likely. Just some journo making up figures for the £1M price. But has it actually happened?  No mention on Sky transfer talk of this deal.

Yes he has great ability and at his best would be a great loss to the club but fitness always a problem and more importantly not sure he still wants to be here. Would like to think the fee is higher than the 1 million quoted by a friend of a friend etc & that a replacement/s have already been found.

Only then will we see if this has been a good deal or not?

He won't be injured and he'll tweet to prove it. :)

Fine by me. If fit and firing then a good player, but when could we honestly last have said that about him?

He is within the final year of his contract and has an appalling injury record, also comes across as something of a billy big boots at times. We were never going to get a huge fee.

I just hope he doesn't now turn it on regularly the way we know he can sporadically!

Gutted after the great season he put in last year, running himself into the ground and scoring bucketloads. Clearly he is the key to promotion this season, not least through his contribution to team spirit.

£1m is the sort of fee you'd accept for a malingering malcontent who'd done sod all of note for two years. Oh, hang on......

Pilkington is undoubtedly a talented performer but has been injured far too often and has looked disinterested for a long time. £1 million, if true, is about what you'd expect for a player entering the final year of his contract (Snodgrass was a big, big, exception).

Hopefully this will free up spaces in the squad for positions we really need reinforcing in.

Also, I might this indicate that the club are relatively confident that Redmond will be staying? You wouldn't expect them to sell Pilkington if they were going to let Redmond go...

Also, Pilkington would be able to sign a pre-contract with a club in England by January meaning he would leave for nothing anyway. Hard to criticise the fee when Norwich were in such a poor bargaining position.

Seems odd to sell to such a direct promotion rival. I think the board has accepted that we're not going to get promoted this season.

Not a bad deal for a player who has barely featured and is down to the last year on his contract. A huge shame, though - Pilkington is a class act when fit and on his game. Just doesn't happen enough though.

Selling to Cardiff is particularly odd, though. Why sell to a direct rival?

I think that's obvious. To be in this position with only 45 games to go means that promotion is already completely unachievable.I wouldn't be surprised if they sell the ground for housing before Christmas too.

Personally I've never really rated him. Thought we should have got rid last year when it was rumoured Stoke were after him but I suppose no Premier League club would want him now.

Personally I'm a little disappointed, I think if he's fit, he had something to offer this year, and I can't see us signing a better replacement. Will be extremely disappointed if there is no replacement and he's thinking of rushing the Murphy's into the team.

I'm in a similar boat. I've never really rated him as highly as some people. He had a few really good moments for us and scored in the Premier League, but he went missing a lot, wasted the ball a lot and was injured a lot. I'm not that upset at all about him leaving, especially after airing the dirty laundry in public on Twitter last week, I don't think you can do that.

Not worried about the price, more worried about him going to a team that will/should be competing with us at the top of the table. As said before, on his day (I know that's not as often as it should be) he is a really class player.

And therein lies the problem. He never is for long. The recurrence of hamstring problems is a massive red light. Most players do a hammy at some point but if it happens frequently it usually means an underlying problem, maybe in the lower back. My son's career ended early because of just that, despite extended warm up sessions, regular massage and supporting clothing. I think this is a good time to get rid.

Seems perfectly reasonable - he is in the last year of his contract, has injury issues and an attitude problem, imo £1m given the circumstances seems about right. The decent performances of two seasons ago are a long way distant when you consider last season's 'efforts', and it is probably no bad thing to get him off our books and a fresh start somewhere else.
