Celtic fans on Gary Hooper

I think it's useful to get an insight into Hooper's current situation.

Not particularly. I mean I probably wouldn't be that fussed about what any player has done for a former club but especially so in Hooper's case. He played for a massive club in a league of minnows and he did well.

As with any player, I only care what they do in a Norwich shirt and I think we've all seen enough to know what Hooper can do and what he can't.

I'm a big fan of Hooper. I think that if he was to play up front with Jerome then it would be the perfect combination. But as others have said, with the form of Wes there's no real reason to do that. 

Definitely wouldn't sell him though, I think he could be a great goalscorer even at Premier League level, and hopefully he'll prove that next season.

I can see why people want to get rid. We've definitely not seen the best of him, which is really disappointing. It's not like you can even say 'he's only done it in Scotland' as he scored frequently in the Champions League when he played, and was on the brink of an England call up. 

I think he has far more ability and quality than Jerome or Grabban, but just doesn't seem to have the same work rate in my opinion.

Hooper hasn't done much wrong at Norwich, just been kept out by better ball players like Jerome and Grabban. He is a very good finisher but not so good at either holding the ball or tackling. Question is should he go or should he stay?

I don't want Alex Neil to fall into the same trap as Chris Hughton and have to try and replace a big chunk of his strike force in one summer, whilst there are so many other more pressing priorities (left back, left winger, right back, centre back?). 

We already have space for a new striker (was it Ferguson who said you should have 4 good strikers?). Unless Alex Neil decides he wants to give Van Wolfswinkel one of the spots.

This is why I started this thread though. We seem, as Norwhich fans, to have quite a different perception of Hooper to the Celtic fans. A lot of what they have said is quite surprising to many of us I think, thus confirming we havent seen everything Hooper has to offer

Or he thrived against poorer opposition?

That is one obvious explanation, and of course was playing in a dominant team as opposed to one on the backfoot a lot of the time (Premier League). But as has been stated Hooper has also played well in the Champions League and did very well in the championship for a poor Scunthorpe team

You can spin it either way you want to I guess, to suit your opinion. The Champions league and the Championship aren't teh Premier league.

I think he is a good player, but I think he will struggle to hold down a place in a team that plays one striker.

I agree. That was the main reason I wanted to ask how Celtic had played him. My opinion was he would struggle to fit in our system. I found it interesting that they highlighted his adaptability, link up play and ability to play up front on his own, which flies in the face a little of our experience of him.

Perhaps it is as simple as the opposition he was facing

Whilst a massive exaggeration (and somewhat revealing) a number of Celtic fans highligted the Stokes-Hooper partnership. Whilst Stokes himself is unlikely to be the answer, maybe it does suggest that with the right partner Hooper could be dynamite. Perhaps we arent giving Hughton enough credit for what he tried to do with Elmander

He's just not that good. Never going to be "dynamite" at Prem level.
