I was just perusing some old literature and then scanned the internet after watching a youtube video celebrating our 1971-72 success. That brought back some warm memories so I did some delving down into memory lane with the back up of the internet.
I am always puzzled when the football industry claims there is too much football and players get tired easily despite vigorous and well thought out training regimens and careful dietary instructions. And complaints when players are dropped or clubs go out of cups early.
Our first season in the old 1st Division in 1972-73 amounted to 60 matches. 42 league games, 3 FA Cup, 7 League Cup (finalists) and 8 matches in the Texaco Cup.
I can't find any individual appearance records but I would imagine some played every game.
Not a criticism of today's football but just waving a flag for what happened in the past and hoping many who weren't born dismiss it as just history.
