Could Redmond play similar role to Sterling?

Watching Queens Park Rubbish against a below par Liverpool yesterday, it was interesting to see the role Sterling played for them. It was for me a real highlight of the match, I loved the way he had a lot of freedom and the panic he caused through the middle, rather than being stuck in a wing role waiting for the ball to come over, he switched to that when required. Sure Sterling is right now better than Redmond, but Redmond is quality, has the potential and certainly the pace right now to play in a similar position, and would I am sure be really effective against lesser CB's at this level. I am no tactician and am sure that other team changes would be required to accommodate Redmond playing more central. What do others think?

Redmond should definitely have a run in that position.  He played centrally for Birmingham frequently (I think at one point he was their main striker),  so he could very possibly turn into a sterling like player.  This would then give room for Murphy to come in to the team.  I hope we try it at least once this season

Could be worth a go. We will not find out if it will work without trying it.

The other benefit of trying this would be to give the team better balance. Until Josh comes on we are too right sided when attacking. It has failed in too many games now, and the time has come to shake it up. Playing Redders in that position would keep the option of going with two wingers late in the game whilst only using one substitution.

I think he could play there.

But he's also the best winger at the club so I think he stays out wide for now.

I think to let him roam would be a great idea. defences hate pace, and putting  man marker on him, just won't work, so giving him freedom, would mean that allocated defenders, just wouldn't cope. The plus side of that means others could also find gaps, as defenders try and 'pass' Redmond on to their colleagues, as he crosses the pitch

I personally think his best position is on the right wing, as I'm not sure his shooting is good enough to play behind the striker. I also think that Redmond's best asset is the fact that he gets it on the wing and can hit it 10 yards infront of him and outpace the defender to get there first. If he was playing central he'd have a lot less space to work in and wouldn't be able to do that. However, I certainly wouldn't be against playing him in that position if we needed to.
