Defence selection

Finally PC has some flexibility in his defensive choices, unlike last season when on occasions it was a real struggle to fill 5 places.

So - who are our best players and what’s our most effective combination?

Grimshaw or Kovacevic?

Stacey or Fisher?

Darling and McConville or Cordova or even Alves?

Christene or Yongwa or Mahovo?

I wish I knew!

For now:
Grimshaw
Stacey over Fisher
Darling over Cordoba
Chrisene

Yongwa looks like he could be a great addition though.

For me, just now,

Grimshaw
Stacey
Darling
McConville
Chrisene

Same as above, Yongwa looks interesting but I have only really paid attention to his attacking, I haven't really noticed how well he defends!

I might be wrong (I think it did happen in 1987) but didn’t Yongwa do a relatively decent job defensively against Man City?

I still prefer Vlad in goal.

Fisher is probably a better defender than Stacey but the latter is more potent going forward.

McConville

Cordoba / Darling interchangeable.

Chrisene, but now we suddenly have a wealth of back ups.

Vlad on form I prefer (but Grimmy takes it for now)

Fisher (in form) over Stacey, although Stacey offers more going forward from a wide position, I think Fisher's ability to come inside, really helps out in midfield with numbers and stops those quick one/two pass counters against us

Cordoba (again in form) offers more than Darling

Mahovo (if he can keep fit) offers the most at LB, but in Chrisene and Yongwa we have two fantastic interchangable players

So, overall if all in form I would go

Vlad
Fisher McConville Cordoba Mahovo

Right now, based of form and performances

Grimmy
Stacey McConville Darling Yongwa/Chrisene (really can't separate the two)

If we could get last seasons Vlad back from wherever he disappeared to over the summer I’d have him over Grimshaw, but this season he’s still anxiety inducing with the ball at his feet and not pulling off the top class saves that made up for his other failings.

Cordoba and Darling are both flawed, Cordoba is wildly inconsistent though, even in the same match, so I’d probably prefer Darling.

McConville has cemented his name for now. He’ll make errors because he’s still young but he’ll save more situations than he creates problems by some distance for me.

Chrisene is probably the most consistent in the back four but kind of hilarious we now have two fit quality alternatives after last season.

God knows what’s happened to Fisher but Stacy is overly maligned IMO. His athleticism and fitness is fantastic and he’s doing well despite being offered very little protection. I’d rather have an in form Fisher, even with his lack of attacking ability, but that form seems to have gone AWOL.
