Is it now getting a bit ott ? Someone could sit next to me at a match, we could both cheer the team on and go home. I wouldn’t know they were gay and wouldn’t need to know. For some reason we now need a weekend of rainbow laces, corner flags and even rainbow stickers on the microphones used to interview players after the game. If blt people want to be inclusive that’s fine, so just come along and try and enjoy the match the same as the rest of us.

Yeah I see what you are saying, but its much the same as the kick it out campaign, they are trying to make it an environment where everyone can feel comfortable and welcome, without racism and homophobia. Which, if you have been going to football any length of time, used to be rife. Without being disparaging to anyone, a lot of football fans are from the lower end of the gene pool, and see a football ground as the last bastion of 1970's attitudes!

But I see what you're saying Its like saying on one hand "Hey we're all the same, don't make a fuss, then actually making a fuss.

Complicated subject, but football probably is 10 years behind the rest of the country so I can see why they are making a bit of an effort. 

Ultimately the only thing which can really change attitudes is when a couple of top class players come out as gay... imagine if Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo came out as gay, would kind of put to bed the whole "gays can't play football" thing wouldn't it. 

Rugby had a couple of top pros come out as gay and the negative reaction was so negligible that it was basically an anti-climax, would probably be similar in football. The players in question would probably have to hand the keys to their twitter accounts over to a social media manager, because that's probably the only place they'd get the type of stick that could actually affect them... I'm convinced that if a professional in England came out as gay they'd largely be fine... odd moron in the crowd would quickly be shut down by fellow supporters at the majority of clubs.

I know a gay couple (married) and one of those really detests the whole gay pride movement. He goes to the pub with his straight mates when his husband attends those events  :lol:
