Generally a thread for anyone to moot new ways of playing. How about this, considering the weaknesses in the wide areas?

This is 3-4-3 moving Olsson to a left wing back (or having Redmond as an inverted winger) and Bennett as right wingback (or Redmond as a conventional winger)

This system gets easier were we to sell Redmond and Olsson as the questions about where best to fit them in go away

Lafferty needs to be our talisman I think, but Hooper and Jerome dont deserve to be dropped

3-5-2 could suit us - while yesterdays 4141 clearly failed.

343 could work - but would not have olsson in it.   He has pace but cant match it with quality from his feet.   despite a proportion of his game in the champs and 25% more games he has the same number of assists and fewer creating passes per game than garrido.       I would always have lefferty ahead of him there - and johnson is far better (or just less of a liability) there than central - and I would trust him there more than olsson.   His return is stunning poor when compared to both martin and the much ridiculed whittaker both of whom set up and score goals far more frequently.   A proper wing back would be better.    Add in olssons suspect defending I cant see him making this work - however we do have the player squad to make it work.

my 352 would also depend on wing backs - but personally I would revert to stick to a 4231 - just ensure one full back bombs forward at a time so we dont keep getting stretched and make sure the defensive midfielders also only attack one at a time.

The talent in redmond/howson/wessi/mcgarndles/grabban/jerome/hooper is more than enough to mean we dont need 8 people attacking all the time.

Whilst I have seen Lafferty do OK in a wide position, I can't get beyond the idea that we should be making him the main man, the talisman. Surely players should be playing off him not the other way around. I know he's not known as a target man, but come on he's huge! He should be niall Quinn with a Phillips working off him. Just depends who your Phillips is, and whether u have two of them

So Adams got slated for playing players out of position and experimenting, Neil yesterday for playing Whitaker in midfield, and now some of you want to play three at the back ?

What we need is a complete rebuild of the squad. Lafferty, Turner, Martin, Whittaker, E Bennet, Cuellar, Becchio, Garrido, Miquel Johnson and Hoolahan can all go. Ruddy, Olssen , Hooper and Redmond will probably go anyway. Get in Pritchard and that RB from yesterday for starters.

Too many have been here for to long and are under performing.

Jury still out with our unproven manager but selecting that line up and nor recognising it was not working is a concern.

I've pretty much written off this season, so let's look at going again next season with a hungrier side built around our youth before we look at line ups as the current lot are pretty useless with change.

One thing you do highlight is the difficulty who to drop scenario. This has been a big issue all season and indicates that transfers and knowing your best team has not been thought through this season.

I'd keep O Neil for another season.

Heard lots of people calling for us to try and sign Pritchard from Brentford.

He's on loan from Spurs, who by all accounts think rather highly of him. Doubt they would consider selling.

Think you've misunderstood the purpose of the thread. This isnt intended ot be advice for the manager - just discussion and brainstorming theory - purely for the fun of it

Often thought with the lack of left wing options moving Olsson forward might be a good move. Garrido is better than warming the bench each week, but Olsson is better. Having them both control that flank would be good, dont think it would be too defensive and would be attacking enough

i had thought about playing a midfielder maybe Tetty at CB.....not a lot of teams play with 2 up top anymore, combats the player 'in the hole' as would be more forward thinking in play and better on the ball a little like Barca did with mascherano.

To be honest, I think Turner/Bennett and Bassong would compliment each other quite well.

Couldnt agree more. Bassong and Turner were a fantastic complent to each other. The problem has been we had multiple Turners and only one Bassong. Then we had no Bassongs

I really hope he's coming back, and that he'll kick some ass

IMO, both Elliot Bennett and Olsson could do that. Either Tettey or Johnson could do the screening job with Howson or Odjidja-Ofoe as the box to box CM. The problem then is how do you accommodate both Hooper and Redmond up front?

Wow, bit extreme I think. We certainly don't need a complete re-build. And even if we did, getting rid of Turner, Martin, Johnson, Hoolahan, Ruddy, Olsson, Hooper and Redmond would be ridiculous.

I think you can accommodate Hooper and Redmond in a back three by having a 3-4-1-2 but I can't find a way for both Johnson and Tettey. They do complement each other with both taking turns and getting forward. I picked Johnson just because he is more of a goal threat.
