I wouldn't drop Grabban, he makes things happen.  Nor would I drop BJ.  Or Hooiveld, for that matter, though I do rate Turner.

Lots of pace out wide, a goalscorer who can also hold it up, and some mettle with BJ, Howson and Tettey in the centre.

Lafferty's looking a bit of a luxury to me at the moment, started well but not convinced.  He would be a potential game-changing sub.

To be honest though, we could sign Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, and Yaya on loan just for this game and we'd still lose. I just automatically write off games against Fulham at the start of the season.

Agree with the 4231 giving better balance. Not sure how to improve the back line. A new rb signing and give turner a new partner? Iggy or cuellar worth a try or hove hooiveld time to develop a partnership. He has not been much worse than turner tbh

The funny thing is that if we were about to play a team that we had a good long run of results against the people who're saying we're doomed on the 18th would be saying "by the law of averages we're bound to lose to them this time"! Fatalism in an integral part of the psyche of football fans.

Yeah, I don't think Olsson is playing that great at the moment and Garrido has shown in his time here that he can form part of a very decent defence for us - and at Premier League level.

Olsson has been poor. Garrido put in a great performance away to ipshit and another at home against someone when Olsson was suspended.

I personally thought Olsson was very good against Rotherham. It's difficult for him because for the last few games we've played without a left winger, with Hoolahan in the middle, so he effectively has to do the work of 2 men.

Garrido is a good option to have though at this level. Not sure about him in the Premier League though.

Yeah pretty much where I stand.

I have been saying for ages that we need someone, left sided, in on loan, after losing Surman and Pilkington.

I think Lafferty could be worth a go on the left.

But yeah when you add Snodgrass to Surman and Pilkington that's a lot of natural width out the door with not too much coming in.

It would appear E Bennett isn't really at the races (and, realistically, isn't better than Redmond on the right anyway) and Josh isn't yet up to starting games regularly - or at all.

With what we have at the moment I think we have to go with either Lafferty or VOO in the left berth. Not sure it is the best position for either but maybe the best option we have.

The other possibilty is Garrido at LB and play Olsson at LM.

Whether Wes plays depends on whether we go with 1 or 2 strikers and even then he could lose out to Howson in the centre of the 3, if Tettey and BJ are retained.

Maybe the time has also come to revert to 4231 with the option of 442 or 352 if the game needs to be chased.

I personally don't think there's any harm in trying Elliott Bennett on the left wing. He has a good delivery and can cut inside and have a shot as well. I know he (like Redmond) is more effective on the right, but considering we don't seem to have any proper options on the left at the moment, I certainly would be in favour of us trying it.
