Goal of the season?

I refer to the first scored by Howson. We are a high scoring team, and among our goals scored have been some beauties, but for two reasons Howson's goal must be a contender:

• After a a thirty yard run, beating two players, and from outside the penalty area, with his left foot he powered a well placed and excellent, unstoppable shot. It showed his technique and skills. It was a solo effort from start to finish.
• In context  it was a game-turning effort. Prior to his goal we looked very little better than Millwall, timid and lacking in confidence, and you would have secured long odds on our team scoring four goals. The goal swung things, and we began to grow in confidence.

There may be other fine goals scored before the end of the season, but Howson's must rank with the best. Without that goal, which made MIllwall subside, we could even have been unlucky and lost. Two defeats in a week would have presented Neil with a considerable confidence building problem.

True but it has some stiff competition. To pick just one, look at the quality of the buildup to create the chance for BJ to smash in the winner away at Blackburn with just a few minutes left.

And we shouldn't forget the quality of the move last Sunday before BJ almost broke the net with his shot against the scum.

We've had a few screamers this year that's for sure!

Surely Cameron Jerome's v Bournemouth has to be up there. Down to 10 men, 1-1, and he pulls a 25-yard - top corner - bending shot on the turn out of the bag. That was a beaut!

I'm never quite sure whether the context of the goal should come into consideration..   Like Safri said, Jerome's at Bournemouth was huge given the situation we were in, but the goal itself wasn't the best we've seen this season.

We've been spoilt by some wonderful goals and how you rate them depends on your personal criteria.

But, we all remember Simeon's scrappy half arsed winner against Derby better than many far more skillful or quality goals. The great Fashanu goal came in a defeat to Liverpool.

The goal of the season will in many people's mind be the one that secures promotion

I'm changing my answer. Hooper v Blackpool was one of the best team goals I've ever seen us score.

There are a lot of worthy contenders, but I'm one of those who considers the context, the quality of the opposition, and the importance of the game, which leaves me with Jerome's winner against Bournemouth, like Safri, and for much the same reasons.

Johnson is a strange case, well this season at least. He has scored some spectacular goals up to now, but is our most wayward contributor at about 23% acuracy. He has registered just ten shots on target. Oh, yes, they all went in. Incredible stat.

Hmm disputing that Mustard. WhoScored has him down as having 23 shots on target in the Championship season.
