+ Probably other bonuses to non-playing staff, and inevitably a big overdraft to repay? And likely promotion add-ons in some of the transfer fees?

Add to that the fact that parachute payments come in installments throughout the season and not one big lump sum.

Makes me think that talk of Che Adams and Jarrod Bowen may be unrealistic? Unless we can manage one big marquee signing and then hope for more Pukki's and Buendia's on the cheap?

Looks like we're going to have to rely on team spirit and squeezing everything out of what we've got + a few shrewd additions in the first year, and will then be able to throw some decent transfer fees around if we stay up?

In fairness, that's what we did under Lambert..... although not spending money in the summer and waiting until January to sign Dean Ashton was what screwed us under Worthington.

The thing is, we WILL be clever. Webber pretty clearly identified obvious mistakes the last few times we went up, and I doubt we will make the same ones again. I agree about Ashton, but am not so sure we were in a financial position to sign him in the summer, or they wouldn't let him go, there was definitely something. And under Lambert we got a bit above ourselves, and it became a bit "spend as much as we can, and stay up at all costs" without any real long term plan, or planning for going down. We basically assumed we had cracked it.

Spending 100m isn't the way to do it, ask Fulham....

We didn't spend much at all in that Prem season under Lambert, it was Hughton who was then handed our biggest ever transfer budget.

McNally basically agreed to a reckless gamble in that last January window..... still paying the wages of Naismith and Jarvis today

Ah yes, thats what I meant lol. I think Delia and Michael told him that we had to stay up at all costs, and it was never really thought through properly. Like I said, we got a bit above ourselves.
