Out for 9 to 12 months with a cruciate ligament injury.

Are there any good examples of a player of his age recovering from an injury that serious and making a return to professional football? He's 34 in a few months, so will be almost 35 by the time he recovers and that assumes no complications during rehabilitation. 

One has to wonder whether he's reading through the small print at the bottom of his insurance policy and weighing up the pros and cons of retiring injured or trying to make a comeback to play for Carlisle.

Difficult not to feel sorry for the man to be honest. Can't feel too sorry for him, because he's made his money and isn't exactly going to be living on statutory sick pay, but I think we all would have liked to see him drop down the leagues and score a few goals for his hometown club!

Nah, he won't come back from that. I tore my left ACL twice, I carried on playing after the first one, but it was just never quite the same.

Its a big, big injury to come back from, even as a young man, and most players are never quite as good on recovery.

I would have thought, if he is still under contract at his club he will complete his rehab there, covered by insurance, and then probably retire. The rehab has to be done whether or not he decides to continue playing.

Big blow for him and just when he was ready to try again with Wigan after his loan, I wish the great man all the best!

Poor bloke, wish him all the best. Looks like that's it for his career though.
