But if you let the other side score three, then you may as well not have bothered scoring any in the first place!

I'd suggest that a return of 7 points from our last 9 league fixtures does represent being stuck in neutral irrespective of whether we draw 0-0 or 8-8 - but yes, if we start scoring more than the opposition that will help and eradicating some of our defensive frailties will aid that, as will taking more of the chances we create at the other end.

As NA himself said, if you score three goals at home you expect to win. But for a marvellous instinctive strike by Hooper,(could he repeat it?), e could have lost.

I hope that Phelan, a former defender, will do something to improve the defence, but they are short of pace and concentration and he will have his work cut out to something with them. 

In the early days of the season when we were actually winning, I remember John Ruddy talking about our defensive record and the number of clean sheets. He doesn't do that now.

I also hope that Phelan joining will gee up the defence and midfield cover. Tighten those up and we could turn this form around and hopefully start a decent run.
