Exactly. Bolton could never afford to buy him and/or his wages, and we'd gain basically nothing sending him out on loan with only a couple years left on his contract. Just a case of 2+2=5

If he's not wanted by AN we should be able to at least get our money back on him (£5 million+). Personally I would be sad to see him go.

Not seen much of Hooper this season. I do wonder whether fitness is an issue at all with him. When I saw him in his first season with us he struck me as being very good. Remember him pulling the trigger or getting a chance cold and just putting it away with no fuss. Looked very composed and a true goalscorer. Obviously he was a machine in Scotland, dont know enough about his time there though - did he play up front on his own? Did he have a strike partner?
My impression of him is that he is a finisher and needs a partner, dont know if his time at Celtic violates this perception. He's clearly talented, but he doesnt seem to fit into having one striker, which most teams play with now. He'll want better than coming off the bench, so would be surprised if he stayed, though Id like him to

For me he's looked at his best whilst playing with Wes in the team, but that hasn't really been too often. Last season he was the one that benefited from Elmander, so yeah, he certainly needs players around him.

Why would we loan Hooper? That makes absolutely no sense. Keep him or sell him to reinvest in who ever replaces him yes but a loan where we don't have him and don't get a financial benefit seems bizarre.

Gary Hooper would have had to have undergone a radical personality change to want to sign for a mid table Championship club.
He left a huge club and came here talking about wanting to get into the England squad. If Neil Lennon was such a draw he'd have stayed and played with him at Celtic.
I personally think Hooper has far too much belief in his own ability to take such a backwards step, he'll stay and fight for games in the Premier League for at least one season unless told he isn't wanted.
Even if Alex Neil did tell him that he wasn't wanted I've got a feeling they'd be a Premier League team willing to take a punt, or he'd be going to QPR or Burnley to replace Austin/Ings (teams who could afford his wages and have a chance of coming back up).

Agree he does look at his best with Wes in the side, plus I too would be gutted to see him move on, he is quality despite having some critics.

The question could also be asked "How much will we see Wes in the side in the Premiership" too though.

My guess is that unless we sign better he'll play a decent amount. Certainly more than he did under Hoots.

I'd be very disappointed to see Hooper leave this season, and I agree with what's said above. It's just lazy journalism. No way would he be happy going to a mid-table Championship team, and even if he were to leave I'm sure there would be Premier League suitors. Celtic would have him back in a heartbeat as well if he was available.
