Excellent. Prior to the transcript I was a little worried that you might be serious such has been the madness on Twitter this last week. Sorry to have doubted albeit momentarily.
There is an assumption amongst many that City is unique in this appointment, However, equally good questions are:
How did Swansea end up with Gary Monk?
How did Fulham end up with Kit Symonds?
How did Leeds end up with Neil Redfearn?
How did Spurs end up with Tim Sherwood?
I could go on but you get the point. Although the Twitter morons rant as if City has gone on some crazy idiosyncratic frolic, we are not unique. We are far from the only Club to have appointed an inexperienced manage from within. It may not always work but then appointing experienced managers from outside is hardly guaranteed success. There are good reasons for it happening and it is the result not the process which is important now.

Excellent. The key is recognising it may not work out. If there are no signs that Adams is finding how to turn the current down turn around then the board have to accept, as with grant that not all internal promotions of coaches work out.

Very amusing.
But to answer the question my take on the situation is something like this.
1. Crowd turn on Hughton at the end of the WBA game. Board now feel there is nothing to lose and any roll of the dice is better than none. Possibly there was not unanimity in this decision.
2. NA is appointed as manager. This is crucial as without those 5 games he would not have been a candidate at all. NA's appointment is not as caretaker but neither is it permanent!
3. At the end of the season McNally states the permanent manager appointment will be made by the following weekend and, again crucially, that NA is a genuine contender.
4. Things do not go to plan and the somewhat unwise self imposed timescale is exceeded.
5. The Radio Norfolk interview is offered to explain the delay. Things are stated to be complicated and that NA remains a contender.
6. Negotiations with external candidate(s) fail. Something must have been in the pipeline as evidenced by Delia's things are complicated comment.
7. The board have now backed themselves into a corner. A potential external appointment has not come to fruition and they are now left only with the internal candidate who has been stated on more than one occasion as being a genuine contender.
8. So now it is decision time, do they backtrack on their publicly stated views that fundamentally say that they believe NA can do the job, or do they go with him even tough they realise it is really an act of faith as whilst he may well have interviewed well the experience to evidence his credentials is pretty thin on the ground.
9. The decision is made to appoint NA.
Well that's my interpretation of events anyway. Could be way off the mark of course!

What adds intrigue and I'm surprised it has not made more of a splash is Darren Eadie's comments on last week's Canary Call that Neil Lennon left Celtic to make himself available. That he wanted the City job but the Club did not contact him.
It surprises me that we would not even speak to such an experienced candidate. I guess by then it was all buttoned up.

I think by the fact he ended up where he did, perhaps shows that Mr Lennon isn't quite the hot property he, perhaps, thought he was.
