[Lone Star Canary]

Howdy from Fort Worth, Texas... Where the West Begins (or so it says on our newspaper's masthead).

I'm Marc and I've followed the club as best I can since I was given my family's lineage book as a kid.  Turns out my ancestors (paternal grandmother's side) are from Norwich, including one Timothy Balderston who was mayor in 1736 and 1751.  So one day I see the league table and results each week in the newspaper and there's Norwich, and that's how they became my team.

I've put together a small supporter's group based in Texas with about a dozen members (mostly ex-pats, but a few Americans like myself).  We've got a Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/LoneStarCanaries/) and my twitter handle is @LoneStarCanary - every now and then I get a tweet across on The Scrimmage or Canary Call...

Speaking of supporter groups, the supporter group game is the 20th vs. Birmingham City.  None of our members will be there - just not enough lead time (my trip is at least two years away).  But in talking with the NCFC's Media Relations Manager Gemma Gifford, the club is looking to reassess how to connect with the long distance clubs.

I have the ability to add a social groups function to this forum. 

The app itself is incredible, more advanced than Facebook groups that is for sure. 

But it costs a fair bit to purchase the license for the software, and then an annual license fee, so that would be something that I'd only consider shelling out for if we ever got to 5000 members rather than 257  :lol:

If we did ever get that far, I'd buy it for supporters group to have a presence that is for sure - and maybe that is where the club should be thinking of heading when they get a new website, bringing all the groups together in a social network type feature on the official site.

There will be a meeting before the game.  I've asked Gemma if part of the discussion will be centered around how the club and groups can best serve each other, and with that in mind I've asked my folks that same question.  I cetrainly think there needs to be a better interface online via their website as well as via social media.  We aren't a huge club so we can be a little more intimate.  I'd like to think I get my tweets read on air because I'm a bright witty fellow, but I also know that there's just not as much traffic sent that way as you'd find if we were a huge club.  #NCFC doesn't trend on twitter that often, even in the UK.  But I've looked at the support group sections of several club websites, and found quite a few who make what I consider to be the same mistake - they don't ask how many clicks it takes for a new, unattached person to search and find "their" group.  I think it was Liverpool's that actually has a decent grasp of it.
