If Redmond goes....

First Saints, and now Liverpool, - Redmond seems likely to attract some bids. I am slightly puzzled. Are they prepared to lash our so much on a player who may have talent, but will probably not develop completely this season. Liverpool are looking for something immediate to redeem the season.

If he goes in January, after a bidding war perhaps, what then for us?

Jacob will be back soon after, and Elliott Bennett. Both are improving, even if Jacob seems behind Joshua. The point I am making is that however much we may feel that it is again the big boys stealing our players, we have to consolidate our position, and improve, so perhaps Redmond is an expensive luxury at the moment.

I will be sorry to see him go, but with more money in the kitty we could perhaps sign a half decent CB or striker!

I see what you are saying. Frankly it almost seems inevitable at the minute, all things considered.

Unless of course Phelan can have an immediate impact, and make promotion seem achievable again.

I've seen it all before. If we sell Redmond, the money won't be used to bolster the squad. We will be weaker without him unless one of the Murphy brothers can suddenly click up to the next level.

I'd loathe to lose Redmond this season, we're still not far off the playoffs and even off second place. If we for instance go to Derby and beat them before Christmas, it's suddenly anyone's game again.

Why not just wait until summer. It's not like we'll lose potential money on him, he's easily our best outfield player at the moment.

I didn't think Jacob was anywhere near ready for Championship football,  but he's starting every game for Blackpool so far and I'm pretty sure he got Man Of The Match on Saturday.   I think if Redmond did leave (and who could blame him), we're still in a much better position, on paper at least, than the large majority of teams

Why should Adams get the opportunity to sign his 4th centre back after failing in his first three attempts to sign anybody capable of playing in our XI? 

I wouldn't be completely adverse to use selling Redmond for silly money in January, if a substantial amount of the money goes to a new manager to spend on fixing Adams failures. 

If we can sell Redmond for £12m and then give £6m of it to a new manager to sign a couple of wingers and a decent centre half, then I say we go for it. 

I don't think Redmond is all that special anyway. He is the best winger that we have, because he is pretty much the only winger that we have. But if selling Redmond means we can sign two or three decent wingers, for a sensible manager who wants to play wingers, then that would suit me.

Of course, Redmond might want to go and when that happens, you just have to get the best money you can.

You couldn't turn down the sums of money being suggested. As mentioned above,what we do with it is the key.

I like Redmond and would be sorry to see him go but the club will be thinking about all options including being in the Chump again for a while with falling parachute payments. Very likely scenario.

If we sell we can say goodbye to promotion and the £100m+ benefits - puts the short term gain of a £10m sale into perspective - even a more so when we will still probably be able to get £6-7m in the summer - so is it worth risking £4m for £100m? 

If Redmond wants to go then its a slightly different matter.

But while promotion is still possible - and it absolutely is despite our current gloom - we should remain aggressive and try to seize the day

Need to keep him if we want to get promoted.

And not just because he's our most likely player to create chances.

And not just because he forms the basis for most of our counter-attacking because of his pure pace.

But also because a mentality sets in. When players and fans alike see the best players being sold - the mentality of getting promoted get's lost . Fans & Players confidence in the club and promotion chances drop.

Huckerby made that quite clear when we sold...Etuhu and Saffs was it?

Good point well made, Hogesar. I also don't think we need to sell players in order to improve the squad in January.

We don't need to sell in January although it would be easier to keep him if we are in the top four or so. Mind you if we bag 10 million quid then we could buy at least as good imo.

I personally don't want us to sell Redmond anytime soon. I genuinly believe that he is really not that far away from being a player that could be placed in the same league as someone like Raheem Sterling. With the right training he could easily be an England regular.

Obviously if a big enough offer comes in then fair enough, but I personally think we'd be much better off keeping him.

It all depends on the club's resolve to keep him.    £12m may push them over the edge on this one, but if we are still in mid table come January and not showing signs of much improvement, Redmond himself will likely be wondering about a move.   We need him though and by the end of this season he should be one of the hottest properties out there and worth maybe even more.

We aren't getting the best out of him are we. His performances for his country suggests the lad has it. As much as it is nice to have top players at the club, I fear if things don't change, we will end up selling him for the low end of millions rather than nearer the big money that went Southamptons way for example.

You can't sack a manager for one player but it would be a tragedy if he never produces for us.
