NORWICH City can confirm defender Ignasi Miquel is to leave the Club on Friday, July 31 after an agreement was made to end his contract by mutual consent.

Miquel joined from Arsenal last summer, and made two City appearances in all competitions.

The season before we signed him he went on a 'season long loan' to Leicester, and played only 7 league games. 

So I'm guessing that the "something" was that he just wasn't good enough. 

If he wasn't considered good enough to play, and Jos Hooiveld was, then it is difficult to conclude anything other than that he was simply a waste of money.

I remember Bethnal Yellow and Green ( shame he seems to have left this site by the way) saying when we signed him that Miquel was seriously bad and would not add to the Canary cause.  Man always seems to know what he's talking about especially if it involves Arsenal. Or Japan. Seems both Adams and Neil agree. Neither played him.

Bethnal knows his stuff, and as a journo has access to info that the rest of us don't, so he's well worth listening to. Miquel clearly wasn't going to figure so free up the squad place for someone else.

In Bethnal's last ever post on here he called me a "rape apologist", which I got a bit upset about, I asked him to substantiate but never saw him again. 

He's more than welcome to come back though, sure we can manage to avoid discussing Ched Evans. Doubt we'll encounter any subjects quite that emotive again.

Wow. What a waste of money. Considering we signed him post relegation this was considered a lot of money at the time. It was often said he could play left-back too, so with Olsson injured and Garrido off you'd think he'd be challenging Toffolo, but not a sniff.

I wonder where the decision to sign him came from. He clearly wasnt bought to be a first team player - which further makes the 1.5m (similar fee to Jerome?) baffling.

Someone Adams saw play at youth level and liked the look of? Recommendation from a particular scout?

Simply one of those moves that didn't work out, and in truth we'd have been better keeping to money to pay for extra tea and biscuits instead of a young defender who ended up being no better than players from our youth team...

I suppose the club taking this decision puts my argument about Wisdom into a different perspective. We're alledgedly paying a 1.25m loan fee for Wisdom.

When he goes back at the end of the season we're in the same boat as we were with Miquel - 1.5m down and no player at the end of it.

Wisdom will certainly be better than Miquel and see more first team action.

Still, I think this simply highlights we were wrong to pay that amount of money that season for 'one for the future'. Had he excelled he might have a good sell-on value and thats the gamble. But we've not gained any more by buying this player instead of loaning him like Wisdom. We've lost the fee and probably had to pay some compensation for his wages and got a player with no first team impact for the cost of it.

he has walked straight into lesser known (well for me) spanish club...  only one winner in this Arsenal ...  I can remember thinking he cannot be worth a lot or Arsen would have hied his price up.    still he looked good modelling the gear.. so my daugher told me
