I greeted Neil's appointment with a raised eyebrow, but was willing to give him time to convince me of his credentials, but I find myself truly wondering if he knows how to get the best out of our, pretty decent squad.

Too much playing players out of position just to accommodate them, for me. He has had enough time now to work the players and the system out.

I honestly can't see him improving quick enough to warrant the gamble.

I hate the usual reactions we all have after another disappointing result. And they are emotional and knee jerk and in my case by Sunday morning I have taken the logical opinions, many of them on here, and reasoned that we could just be another club who are trying to aim above their station and should accept that we wil have good and bad times and we are firmly in the bad time era.

But right now, despite my neutrality toward his appointment and desire for him to succeed, I do think he is struggling to accomplish his ambitions. And reluctantly I will have to vote for out.

But I would hate for him to be sacked with the same vehemence toward him as we had for previous failures. The board appointed him so must share some of the ire of the supporters. But I would hate for the club to endure another period of unrest in the stands.

But to counter that, and I plead guilty as well, please can we not have such high expectations in the future. I do not think it is imperative we return to the Prem next season. There is no evidence to say we would remain in the Championship for a long period. It is just as logical to think that our younger players will mature into Championship winners under a new manager.

Actually Eaton, there is plenty of evidence. Year on year the chance of return gets smaller and smaller.

The reason that people think like that eatonparkboy is the simple fact that we've been here before, failed to get promoted at first attempt, and then had to endure 5 years of sharp decline, having to sell players to meet a budget shortfall. This season we get £22m in parachute payments, we do next season too. After that we get £8m for two years, then we are on our own.

Ashton>Earnshaw>Cureton

Francis>Etuhu>Fotheringham

Green>Marshall>Theoklitos

That's what we've seen in the past. Considering we've carried forward a profit of £6m this season, that suggests that we'd need to cut back even this summer if we don't go up. Imagine what we'd have to do the summer after, when we have to cut £14m from the playing budget.

Appointing Adams is starting to look like a false economy. Doing it on the cheap to save money, when in reality if he fails it could cost us an absolute fortune. We should have been bold and poached somebody, anybody with experience of getting out of this league. Even Mick McCarthy.

Fair enough, I just wanted to hear your rationale.

In our last 9 games, we've won once and drawn 4 four times. We have 7 points from 27. I'm not sure if there's any reason for optimism in the next 7.

I think it's accepted that a team's best chance to get promoted from this league is the season directly following relegation from the Prem. I don't want us to fritter that chance away.
Thing is many of those 7 games we didn't get what we should have through no fault of Adams. We battered Wednesday, Adams has no control over Westwood pulling off 3 world class saves, battered Leeds, battered Charlton, and battered Rotherham, only to not get the results through defensive lapses and in some cases, dodgy finishing. You could blame coaching for that but you can't say he set the team up wrong tactically for those matches, we dominated them.

I don't think what any of us thinks matters regardless, I would bet a large sum of money that the board will give him the season at least.

This is true but you can only blame bad luck for so long. Ther has to be something wrong for things to go on and on like this.

I think you are absolutely right Dandy, and if they do then I will try to be patient and hope he can turn it around...I agree with some of what you post here about the last 7 games...but my counter-argument I guess would be that when it happens once, then that can happen, if it happens twice then we can just about see that these things are occasionally possible, but when it happens 7 games in a row then that surely has to be more than just bad luck?

As I say, I am in the 'out' camp now (only just and reluctantly) but if he gets some time to turn it around then we need to support that. I would hate to see Adams come to the point where the cheers he got as a player and club hero turn into jeers

its got nothing to do with luck tbh. Its about accepting that not everything bad that happens in football is neccessarily the managers fault or even in the managers control.

Again, that is true but a good manager is often a lucky manager. Sadly Adams is incapable of getting even a lucky win.

It was a gamble appointment to save money, which is simply not working for a variety of reasons. It feels more and more like being back in the Championship under a Grant. He needs to go but our inept board will act as they did last year and delay. Be prepared for long term Championship or lower with this negligent lot in charge. Let's remember their delay around Hughton and losing our Prem place and £50 million income. Absolutely woeful! Not to mention the " scoured Europe " rubbish. Big shake up needed as all the good years under Lambert are eroding away. So avoidable IMO.

And yes, Burnley and Hull are exceptions, but leave it too long and it's back to square one. If we go back this year we can use it as part of the however many years building we've been doing, but look at Burnley. A joke of a squad that will do well to not be the worst Premier League side ever.

To be honest, I have always believed we fluked it in the Championship with Lambert. The Cardiff home defeat was a surprise and let us in.

Initially this season, I thought we could do a Leicester and romp home. I was mistaken obviously. But what it has illustrated to me is that with our squad, potential for buying and the way the three promoted teams are performing, as you have illustrated with Burnley, we would come straight back down after another season of defeat after defeat. But with money, probably a new manager and another false dawn.

Is that all we are interested in?

Do u think the board members pay any attention to boards like this to gage public opinion?

Not really. Or else Hughton may well have gone at the end of his first season. He certainly wouldn't have made it to last Christmas.

Season one post relegation was always for an experienced manager. I had expected the season to unwind sooner but act now, get Pulis in and we've still got half a shout for the playoffs.
