Let's hope they all play to their best but return fit and well. Club over country every time. :)

Its very good, for a Championship club. And it is a measure of the quality we have retained / bought.  :)

Seven full internationals, an Under 21 and a Under 20 if I've counted that right?

The experience that the likes of Loza and Jacob Murphy will be picking up is definitely useful too.

Here's a question to consider (and this isn't intended to be disrespectful),

"what does it say about the state of English football that an Under 20 has made the squad who isn't even a first team regular in the Championship?"

I think it has always been the case that the international teams at under 21 and below use a lot of players. And a lot of those players disappear into obscurity.

As a great example of how wrong we are doing things, see the German full national side, who have all been playing together for some years, at all levels.

Hopefully they all come back without picking up any knocks, good to see so many of them getting call-ups though.

In fairness, it was Josh who was called up first but who had to withdraw because of injury. Jacob was the closest replacement, I suspect.

We tend to think we are the only nation to have a problem with the amount of foreign players in not only our premier division but more and more in our second division. Spain and Italy had and still have their fair measure of foreigners in their top division. They always have and may always be, better at international football than us.

We have argued about our nation as a football power since the Hungarians came and played us off the park in the early fifties. 66 and 96 didn't prove anything other than we could do well occasionally, especially at home. Those with the 5-1 against Germany are all we talk about rather than solving and perhaps admitting what the real problem is.

One difference is that Spanish teams also have a B Team where younger players can develop alongside senior players. The U21 Development squad is not really the equivalent of that. Had City stayed in the PL, would Josh and Jamar be getting the playing time they're getting now?

Fact is the Prem has a significantly higher % of foreign players than Spain or Italy and far more than Getmany. You look at the England team and in the Prem many are squad players rather than core players in their league teams.

Goals for Hoolahan and Lafferty, can't remember the last time we had two international scorers on the same day or round of fixtures.

I know that "you can only best what's in front of you", but some of this waxing lyrically (on social media) over Hoolahan's MOTM performance does seem over the top, considering that the opposition was Gibraltar!

While it is nice to hear one of "ours" being lauded (far better than having an awful game) I do agree it was over the top somewhat.

I am so disappointed with international football. There should be no fear. Just go out and represent your (or even your grandparents!) country and try and win. But ROI still played with a back four! Admittedly, the full backs pushed on so much but it was still a back four in essence. Gibraltar would not compete against our U21's week in week out so I don't even think 7-0 was a good score.

The same with England against San Marino. We played Milner (51 caps?!!!) in a holding midfield role for goodness sake.

The fear shown by many international managers is driving people away and making club football so more important and playing into the likes of the Premier Leagues hands.

Stop the inquisitions Dyke. Appoint a coach not a prison guard next time.

People really don't understand the mindset of a team going into a game against San Marino or Gibraltar

  • Use as little energy as possible, play the game at 20% pace.
  • Get no injuries.
  • Win.
Check for us, and check for ROI. It's absolutely laughable that people are complaining about not scoring enough. What planet are they on?

So how about 20% of the entrance price and the players only receive 20% of their fee? But of course if you feel tired after 35 minutes of football then you are only giving a small percentage. Those of us from a different planet have probably always tried to give 100% in everything in life. I am so tired of the lame excuses.

But of course "I don't know. It's a theory."

Ok, let's go smash them 20-0, knacker the players, get a couple of injuries. Nobody is forcing you to go to the games, what the hell do you expect playing against San Marino?

Also I assume you're referring to Raheem Sterling there - well I say good on him for speaking up if he didn't think he was 100% to play. Rather that than give a half assed performance. He's only 19 for christ sake. Far too many footballers have been ruined from playing too much too young. If he wants a break, give him it.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw England players giving blood, sweat and tears to the cause. Many of them in recent years have even admitted to not enjoying playing for England.

It was perhaps under Glenn Hoddle, my favourite team was the one which played in Euro 96 under Venables. We have had a few great moments just after Hoddle, England 5-1 Germany under Eriksson.

The days of centre backs wrapping bandages around their heads and playing with a deep cut (Terry Butcher), or crying when they get a yellow card (Gazza) are over. The reason that the fans are so despondent and disinterested in England these days is probably down to us having a team made up of boring passionless prima donnas.

Which is a shame, because in terms of technical ability we are probably as good as ever. The Venables team had a fair few workhorses, but it made up for that in passion. People can sit and defend them and the Hodgson all day if they want, but the attendances at Wembley recently just show that most agree. We're a boring team, devoid of big personalities or any sort of national pride.

I miss John Terry, despite him being a despicable human being. He was willing to try and block shots with his head against the likes of Slovenia, I like that....
