Is it time we released Becchio?

Now Im fully aware that if Becchio's contract is up at the end of this season, which it may well be, then this is a pointless thread.

But, it has become abundantly clear that there would have to be some form of illness crisis sweeping through Colney before Becchio ever got a game for us.

We now have a striker crisis, with Loza and Morris being favoured to the Becchio option, and one is left wondering just what circumstances would have to be for Becchio to be called upon.

Given that he has spent his entire time with us as an unusable option (quite why he has stayed here so long is even more mystifying than why we signed him in the first place), is it time to just let him go?

Perhaps we could give him back to Argentina as a gift instead of the international aid the government gives them so they can lease long range bombers from Russia at a time they are sabre-rattling about the Falklands...

His Twitter feeds are nearly always about a hotel on the north end of Majorca, I suspect he may have a financial interest and flights from Norwich aren't a problem. 

I guess it was a forced move in the first place, swap for one "R", but is strange that none of the managers have been interested. Always seems a nice guy!

I don't know when his contract runs out, but it must be either this May or the next one.  If it's this May, then obviously just let it run out. If it's next year, I'd say send him out on loan to a club which is willing to pay at least the majority of his wages.

Perhaps Im showing my ignorance, but surely if his wages are say 1m up to the end of his contract we could bung him a million and kick him out the door? If he still gets the money he's entitled to, why wouldnt he walk away?

If things got really mega desperate, and every other striker got injured, we could regret it.

But then what if he goes back to Leeds and scores another cracker like the equalizer he got for them in the Champ last time we went there ?

I think AN's comment was that the problem is he hasn't had any game time in ages so is just not a viable option as a squad member at the moment.  So I think it's a no-brainer to loan him out and try to get him match fit (assuming his contract doesn't just run out this May).

Buying him was simply a way of getting Morison out of the club when he was a deadweight in the squad.  Hughton as we know didn't have a clue about strikers.  Not sure what happened when Adams took over.

We're using the youth team ahead of him, looking to bring in another teams youth player ahead of him, and we'd probably see someone played out of position like Redmond or Andreu, or even RvW brought back (!) before Becchio was called upon. I cant see how it would ever happen seeing as Hughton , Adams and now Neil have all disregarded him.

Irony of course is that Becchio became a bigger 'deadweight' than Morison ever was. Think Morison even got a game the other day for Leeds!

Its probably not very likely.

Its confusing, and yet all three Norwich managers have been so consistent on it - even after dropping down to the division he was proven to be effective in. Maybe we'll have to wait until his autobiography comes out!

Unfortunately you are wrong about that, his contract expires at the end of next season. Which makes Hughton's decision to sign him and then not use him all the more remarkable. We signed him in January 2013 on a three and a half year contract.

Others have hit the nail on the head, he's never going to get better money. To our credit we've allowed him out on loan to play football (where he'd probably still be if he didn't break his ankle), we would have been within our rights to try and force him out by refusing that loan. That was a good move because he scored a couple of goals, would have done our chances of getting him out the world of good. 

It doesn't make too much sense to pay off his contract in full, would make more sense to try and give him to Leeds in the summer and then pay him off the difference. So if he is on £25,000, and Leeds offer him £15,000 a week, then we'd pay him half a million to cover the rest owed. 

Leeds have expressed an interest, and Becchio has said that he wants to return there, so in the summer I should imagine we'll try and make a deal happen.

Three managers all not interested in using a striker who managed to score 2 in 5 for Rotherham, who Leeds want back. It is an odd one isn't it? 

I'm wondering whether something has happened behind the scenes!

At the time I actually thought it was a decent signing, but perhaps something has happened behind the scenes for him not to figure for three managers or, he simply doesnt fit in to how we play?
