Bit of a weird one, he's 23 and been sent to League 2 on loan from a Championship club.... impressive goalscoring record this season, but so did Cameron McGeehan at that level and he's flopped at Barnsley. Wouldn't write any League 2 player off because we once signed Grant Holt from that division, but to get to 23 and only have half a season of impressive football in the fourth tier??

If a player leaves on a permanent transfer they get their outstanding loyalty bonus paid in full in a lump sum.... unless they submit a formal written transfer request. 

So it sounds like Martin's agent may be looking for a move, and the club wants him to submit a formal transfer request if one materialises?

Yes. I imagine the club see the injury to Bruno Alves as being to their advantage. They know that has made Rangers' need for a defender increase and clearly Murty has eyes on Russ.

Moreover, Russ would surely view that move as his best chance of getting back in the Scotland squad.

All parties want the move. Who blinks first?

Quite like the idea of this, even though I know nothing about the guy. Bit on the old side but 16 goals in 20 games is a really impressive record even if it is the Spanish 2nd Division. Don't know how good their Championship is compared to the one in this country (can't imagine it's as good), but as long as we didn't sell Nelson and Jerome and replace them solely with this guy then I wouldn't be against it.

Would love us to go for Bradshaw at Barnsley but wonder whether now that they've been taken over whether they'd sell for anything less than a huge fee.

Yeah you're not imagining it, was it maybe in the pre game stuff on BT? I think the working at the club wasn't at a deal stage though. Ah just found it on the pinkun. I should imagine the bit coming back was more like "Of course I'd love to come back and work here" because of course he will be looking for a job.

I can't say I'm overly a fan of a "jobs for the boys" policy. Sure if Russel Martin is the best man for the job, fine, but he shouldn't get a job just because of who he is. Huckerby unfortunately found out that thats not how we operate any more.

Totally agree.

I also think Russ gets a bit over-praised for what he does. People say he's professional, respected and popular etc. How many clubs would say different about their own captain? He does his bit for the community. Again, that will be the same elsewhere.

But generally, in this era especially, you shouldn't need to find jobs for someone you have been paying £25k pw or whatever.

And that's the definition of perspective, I read it and thought mmm Russ definitely going out on loan not playing for Farke, who consistently makes strange comments about the situation. More than meets the eye? Could be Farke using the media to bump up the loan fee / amount of wages paid or trying to be difficult because Russ has said something out of turn? Which might explain the "not playing for Farke again"

Also, Madders, not going anywhere for a while, good news obv.

The bloke isn't good enough anymore and Rangers would be a great idea for him.... he'll play in a league which he is still good enough to look like a decent player in, without the loss of dignity which he'd suffer if he went to League One to Rotherham or Southend, and he may win a few more Scotland caps. 

Wouldn't surprise me if he has fallen out with Farke... loss of pride, a bit embarrassed etc. Probably regrets that Talk Norwich interview where he said he thought he was worth £3m and said that he's a "good player" and how every manager has picked him. Didn't last long under Farke did he. Plus he's already succeeded in getting a manager sacked before, and that possibly relegated us. 

Just feels a bit like he had a bit too much influence / sway / player power, and he's struggling to fit in now that Farke and Webber aren't having any of that and have relegated his status in the squad. Its similar to the way that Gerrard couldn't handle becoming a squad player at Liverpool so left, and Lampard at Chelsea. Completely different standard of course but similar in the sense that they were captains and leaders in the dressing room, and wouldn't be able to adjust to a loss of status. Its a pride thing.

Nail on head Canaryboy.  I have an aquaintance who is a business associate of CH, and therefore was privy to quite a bit of inside information when CH was manager.  Your comment about influence etc., apparently due to him being a favourite of our majority shareholder(s), is bang on the money.  Whilst to many he is whiter than white, to others the opposite is the case.  Undoubtedly he has done good work in the community, but there are quite a few from NCFC, past and present, who would be glad to see the back of him for good.
