Naismith now saying he will play for Rangers for free for the rest of the season.

But of course still expect us to pay up the rest of his contract.

Still, sounds like he is trying to force the move, which isn't a bad thing, we are going to lose financially regardless.
Yeah, was amused by that. I'm happy to play for free (as long as Norwich give me a £2m wedge to be on my way).

Good job we've got plenty of wingers! Oh wait..

Will look pretty stupid if he ends up pushing Cardiff to promotion but hey ho.

If we sign this here Hernandez and he plays more often the Yanic and makes a difference to the team then everyone will have forgotten who Wildschutt is in a months time. If Farke doesn’t really want him then get as much as we can and move him on, it’s not like he was a regular in the side is it ?

We don't play with wingers, thats kinda the point. We play a 4-2-3-1, with width provided by overlapping fullbacks. I would class Murphy as a wide midfielder, btw.

We tried Yanic in the wing back position and it didn't work out for him, hence he is surplus.

The issue is going to be that it doesn't exactly work great for us now then how is it going to work after the overall quality of the squad has been downgraded?

We can say they have got a plan but already we've got at least 4 signings made under the new regime that haven't worked out.

So then maybe you could say that we've got something under our noses in Yanic that we can't see but a proven manager of a better team can see.

But of course this could simply be down to not wanting to pay Wigan any more money.

Also, Hernandez is a winger so if we sign him it would go against what Morty is saying. We don't often play with conventional wingers (although we actually need to, the amount of times it gets congested having that option is vital irrespective of philosophy). Also, IF we want to stick to 4-2-3-1 and not play the two in the three as proper wingers then Pritchard was the perfect option - who is no longer going to be here.

Yanic is a good player and identified by an experienced manager in a good position in the league. I'm fairly confident he will prove that. But like you say, I imagine it's mostly finance related.

Yanic is a one trick pony, bought by a previous management team, as mostly a panic buy, to fit into a system we no longer play  :D

I am honestly seeing people saying he is the best player at the club, and they can't understand why he is going. I was going to put that down to Facebook group daftness, but I see our old friend Lincoln Canary is also banging the drum  :D

I don't get this system thing though Morty? You say Murphy is a 'wide midfielder' and not a 'winger', but his best performances have come (predominantly recently) from hugging the line and giving him more space to run into and attack. Looking at Hernandez online he certainly seems a pretty conventional winger too.

Wildshut is no world beater and his final delivery isn't great, so if we're getting his wages off with a transfer in the summer that's pretty sensible, especially if Farke doesn't rate and isn't going to play him. But we are desperate for numbers in those areas.

And the problem is i'm not sure how good we'll be at finding replacements. Our signings have been pretty hit and miss this season and whilst I like players such as Vrancic and Zimmerman, there's few that offer a better option than what we had before, or even equal.

Again, there's no point complaining until the end of the window when we can evaluate what we've done overall. But we need at least 2 players to play in those 2 wider positions in the 3, because Watkins has offered zilch, and we're down to just Murphy basically. I think Stiepermann could potentially do a job but it would be 'doing a job' rather than being massively effective.

Wildschut is a winger, an old fashioned bomb down the line winger. Murphy has so much more to his game than that, I would also see Redmond as a wide midfielder, as opposed to a winger.

To my mind a winger is someone who plays in a 4-4-2, who plays a very specific, and quite tactically limited role. The role the three players play in our formation demands a bit more than the likes of Wildschutt has to offer. It requires a skillset that he just doesn't have. All too often in the past we have bought players and tried to shoe horn them in, players that perhaps weren't suitable (Ricky) and I would like to think that our longer term philosophy means buying players that actually fit the system we play.

Wildschutt I agree is a convential winger and is limited to that and possibly an emergency full back, I quite like him, but have no big issue with him moving on.....but, for the right money and not another one at under the market value, although its a loan first of course.  Whilst I always get really sensitive during the transfer windows when I see our players moving on and usually for a fee les than I believe them to be worth, I try to wait until the end of the window before the steam comes out the top of my head......just in case we have had one or two decent incomings that compensate for the outgoings...

Finally some good news today!

Sky Sports Scotland have been in touch with Norwich and are reportedly close to the valuation of Steven Naismith.

Which is about ten bob, they just have to up their bid by a big orange, and he's all theirs!

I'd honestly let anyone have Naismith on a free transfer, if it means for certain that him and his massively undeserved wages are off our books.

Not sure what to make of the Wildschut news. I won't be too disappointed, but I do like the idea of having him as an option off the bench even if his final product is limited. He's someone who will get us up the pitch and get the crowd excited, which isn't something which should be underestimated. It's clear though as others on here have suggested that we have some sort of clause where if he plays a certain amount of games we have to pay Wigan a bit more, hence this move and also why he's on featured sporadically for a while now.

As for Maddison, I can't see him going this window after Pritchard's sale. As much as we're trying to get money in Webber and the board surely know that sell both our best players in this window and the chances of us sliding towards the relegation zone massively increase. If Maddison does go then I genuinely think we'd be in real danger of being in the bottom 3 by the time the season finishes. We can get a lot of money for Maddison in the summer, we don't need to take the first offer that gets thrown at us this window.

As for the business we did in the summer, I'd actually say overall it was decent. Individually I'd say:

Trybull - Fantastic signing on a free transfer. 9/10
Gunn - One of the best goalkeepers in the league and one of our best players this season. Shame he won't be here next year. 8.5/10.
Hanley - Think he's a great centre back at this level who's looked better with each game. Fee was steep by our standards, but certainly a good signing. 7.5/10.
Zimmermann - Free transfer and a solid centre back at this level. Still only 24 so not that young but room to get better. 7.5/10.
Reed - Shame that he's competing with Trybull and Tettey or he'd have been a key player for us. On loan though another good signing. 7/10.
Stiepermann - Can cover a lot of positions and we haven't had a chance in his supposed natural position yet. Been solid enough at left back so far. 6.5/7 out of 10.
Vrancic - Started slow but is getting better despite the determination of some to scapegoat him. If he can toughen up a bit then he could be key for us next year. 6/10.
Husband - Again started poorly but gradually got better before getting injured. Since coming back from that injury though he's looked very poor. 4/10
Franke - Had a few crap games, hasn't been seen since and was then loaned out. Suppose there's chance he could be involved next year, for now though: 2/10
Watkins - Sh*t. 1/10.

Then there's Raggett and Phillips as well who it's yet to be seen, but both have a lot of promise.

Don't know what others make of that, but perhaps that shows that Webber and Farke are capable of finding some talented players on the cheap. The problem I suppose is out of that list of 10, only 3, 4 at most are signings that have made a notable difference, and are players that you're disappointed if they're not in the side. Webber said that it'll take him 3 or 4 windows to assemble the side him and the manager want, but at the moment I am struggling a bit to see how after 3 transfer windows we're going to be a better side next season than we were at the start of this one.

I would struggle to give Husband a higher mark than Watkins. Watkins had that good second half against Sheff Weds. Struggling to think of Husband ever being better than average.

The left back area has been a total f*ck up since Olsson left.
