Naismith set to join Hearts in the next 48 hours according to the daily record, personally I can't see them being able to pay him his full £50k a week so either he's taking a pay cut to go there, or they're only going to be paying a part of, can't really see them paying much more than about £20k a week

I can't see them paying anywhere near £20k a week to be honest, that's probably the max that Rangers could pay.... a much bigger club than Hearts.

More like £8k max or something! 

Upside to this move may be that if he does really well in the SPL then Rangers may be tempted in the summer?

Really is beginning to feel like the Doomcaster days though.... lots of loanees + lots of mostly rubbish signings from Scotland. That's 3 SPL players we are linked to now. 

Although Aberdeen do have a very good side right now. Look at how crap Jason Cummings was at Forest though, and he was a goal machine over the border.

So using loans as a stopgap until the summer, when prices get more sensible and also we have our loanees back, so we can get a look at them along with the emerging youth, and really see what we need and buy it at a sensible price, seems like a good plan!

Could end up being a Ryan Bennett at this level I suppose because of the big step up, but a cheaper one so win-win.  :lol:

Theres still enough window left to change or adapt the plan, should we get near the play offs in the next few games. I don't think we are that far away in terms of quality, but we really need some squad fillers, and a decent striking option. I have no doubt that Webber is all too aware of what is required, and although we are cutting costs, I reckon we have a bit of cash to play with, getting rid of Martin and Jeromes wages must have freed up, I dunno, 40k a week?

I think this may be the most sensible way actually. 

Why? 

Because money in the bank in January means that come June we aren't going to have to wait to sell people to bring people in. 

Its our best chance of having a good season next year, otherwise we're waiting until 31st August to shift Cameron Jerome because there are numerous other transfers in the chain above and then we're panic buying 'whoever' after missing out on hotshot A and hotshot B who don't want to wait around all summer for a move. 

The budget projection of a £2m loss at the AGM (or was it £2m profit) for this season, if there are no outgoings, would have left us with £0 in transfer budget on June 1st if we hadn't sold a player.

Food for thought.

Obviously we need to sign a couple in this window, but every pound saved in wages for Martin, Naismith, Jerome etc = also contributes to how much cash we have in the summer. 

So we could keep everybody and see if we could sneak in the top 6, but if that backfires and we finish 8th.... then we actually do become desperate to sell in July, because we'd have to sell to do any business. 

A permanent incoming signing of some sort in this window + Trybull signing a contract would be nice though!

Yup, exactly how I see it, coupled with the fact there are youth players on the verge, and loan players to come back in.

All feels very much like there is a very organised plan behind it.

That said, we need a striker now, and I question whether Carlton Morris really is going to be good enough for a starting place next season.

Come the end of the season I think decisions will be made on a number of young players, some of them should be pushing to get in the squad but aren’t and I would expect Morris and Toffollo to leave as a start. I think the lad that has just gone to Orient on loan is 23 too.

Agree re Toffolo, Morris still has an outside chance as a squad filler I think.

All feels very much like there is a very organised plan behind it.

Having the plan is one thing. Executing it is another.

I think so far we have seen the easier part of the plan executed as you'd pretty much expect. Get rid of older/expensive players where possible.

The harder part of the plan is what you replace them with and so far that part is a mixed bag.

Carlton Morris is a bit of a tough one to call because we've seen so many target men reach their potential at 25/26 or even later in recent years, Grant Holt being the obvious one and Rickie Lambert spent most of his career in League One. 

So I wonder whether he might be worth persevering with and sending out on another 1 year loan, and consider 24 for a big target man to be the same as 21 for any other position or something.

Also, people talk a lot about his goalscoring record but look at Carlton Cole and Emile Heskey, their game was more about bringing other players in and causing a nuisance and Zamora only reached double figures once in 12 years in the top two divisions (although did score a lot in League 1 and 2). 

I wonder whether Morris could have a role here as somebody whose job it is to just come on and bully defenders and cause a nuisance, like Wilbraham under Lambert and Svensson under Worthington... not every striker is supposed to be a goal scoring messiah like Robbie Fowler.

Problem is it isn't really Farke's style to switch to ugly football to try and snatch a point is it.... I think Morris would have had a better chance of having a role here if Lambert was our manager, or any more reactive manager. We don't have much tactical diversity and Morris simply isn't the 'false nine' type that Farke obviously wants but doesn't currently have.

Definitely feels like Morris should still be on our books next season though, either another season long loan or to simply give us some depth and an 'option'. He's still eligible for U23 football for another season so doesn't feel like it has to be decision time for another year with him.

Also, look at Kieffer Moore!

13 in 20 for Rotherham on loan, aged 25, now got a chance with Barnsley in this league... big target men just seem to peak later.

I do have to question whether Husband is actually any better than Toffolo, so will be a bit of a shame that we won't have Toffolo pushing Jamal Lewis for a spot next season to be honest. I bet Husband is on a fair bit more money too, so think that has been a bit of a mistake.

Doesn't mean I think Toffolo is any good, but I do wonder whether we should have just loaned a left back this season considering we've known how good Jamal Lewis is for years (team mates have anyway) and Toffolo is good enough for League One and therefore probably a similar level of ability to Husband.
