Good move really for all involved. Good player who could help Wigan get out of trouble, and gives Josh some game time that he needs really after limited opportunities here, particularly since Alex has come in.

Many people bemoaning how we're letting one of our best youngsters go.

Well, from my point of view, he's not at the required level yet. I'm not even convinced he will ever reach the required level (puts tin hat on)

The best thing we can do right now is get him playing competitive games in this league, and see how he does.

In my eyes, this makes perfect sense. We've Johnson, Redmond, Dorrans, all ahead of him in the pecking order. (Even Lafferty was deemed more suitable out wide than Murphy earlier in the season!)

I think this is very much the case. There is no doubt the academy has produced a number of adequately talented young players who have gone on to begin a career in football but at a slightly lower level than that required by a string of NCFC managers, Smith, Francombe and Adeyemi for example.

At least playing regular competitive football means if they are late developers there will be plenty of opportunities to progress.

Exactly.  I think we've been a bit too quick to dismiss youngsters for not being first team material at a young age.  I think we were a bit harsh in getting rid of Adeyemi so soon, and he's now proving himself easily good enough for this level at Cardiff. It also looks like Harry Toffolo could be moving to Swindon at the end of the season (which would be idiotic for us imo), and McGeehan doesn't seem opposed to the idea of joining Luton permanently either. Both of them could be huge losses in the future.  

Murphy isn't good enough to be a first teamer yet, and since we got knocked out of both cups early on it didn't give him much chance to rotate the squad.  Sensible move all round

Plus Wigan still have to play Watford, Boro, Derby, Wolves and Brentford. If Josh can help Wigan get anything from those games, its another bonus for us
