Other sites are full of rumours about the possibility of City signing Dorrans on loan when the window opens. At the Baggie's end there is also some discussion.

This would make sense for us, - we keep Olsson until the summer and we have Dorrans as well, even if the loan will end before possible play-off matches.

Can this be true? 

Firstly, I was under the impression that Dorrans was out of contract in the summer. Surely WBA would want to cash in during the January window, so why the insistence on a swap? 

Secondly, however good Dorrans is, now that we have Andreu do we need yet another central midfielder? Or have they given up on the fitness of Vadis, felt that Johnson is superfluous while Tettey remains, and that O'Neill is only a temporary stop-gap?

Having seen a little of Andreu on video, and read about him, he is a goal poacher (- is that what attracts our manager?), but probably falls well short of the all-round game of Dorrans. I would have preferred the WBA man.

If the rumours have anything in them, and we sign Dorrans on loan (with a view?), I shall be delighted. At the moment I am puzzled by the apparent change in attitude by WBA.

West Brom have a one year option on his contract so whilst he is technically out of contract in the summer, they'll likely extend it if they think they can use him as leverage or get some money for him. 

Also, is there anything stopping us and West Brom signing a contract to complete this deal in the summer? For all we know Olsson could be with his agent in West Brom hammering out a contract today and having a preliminary medical for a deal which would be completed in the summer, with the agreement that Dorrans can join us on loan next week. 

Perhaps with the agreement that if the Olsson deal falls through we have to pay a fee for the Dorrans loan, or sign him at an agreed price in the summer. 

Even if the above is against FA rules it could easily be done off the record or under the table, it is football that we're talking about after all. It wouldn't be as dodgy as the time that we bought Ricky Van Wolfswinkel from Chelsea.

I will be delighted if we sign dorrans.   He is a slight step up in class on all of our existing cms and has an all round game missing from most.     I do agree its not the area I would have immediately target to buy for (although we could resolve LM by using BJ there - I hope we do) but I do think it improves the squad and he should be coming to his peak three years.

The practicalities & timing appear to have gotten in the way;  approaching 11pm  WBA were looking at carlton cole and fletcher as well as the olsson/dorrans deal  rather than revisit the dorans sale decided to not worry about a sale and focus on incoming once Olsson said no.      

Andreu again does not fill the key problem areas but clearly brings the mix of knowledge of the managers system,  graft,  creativity and goals scoring to the team.

Both put pressure on Howson, VOO, Wes, Hooper, BJ & O'Neil and probably remove Bennett and Murphy from the starting team.   And that can only be a good thing.

Now if we can add either Noone or Jarvis wide left we will have improved both the attacking and defensive contribution of the central midfield area beyond recogniton - a midfield of

Jarvis Dorrans Tettey +1  Redmond with the +1 from Howson, VOO, Wes & Hooper does excite me.

The final challenge is to coach the defensive squad into a capable back 4.   The names are all good enough - just create some team awareness..

As for what seemed a quiet window, we've done quite well really. What is in effect replacing Hooiveld with Bassong, now that he's back in the team, is in itself a potentially big gain whilst saving on salary. Lafferty going on loan is also a saving and he's still our player and says he wants to return to CR in the summer. If the Dorrans loan deal is true, he and Andreu will add valuable options in the AM department which should strengthen the squad overall. Well done Neil and McNally.

Van Wolfswinkel was 50% owned by a company called Quality Sports Investments, which is actually a series of companies - all with similar sounding names, most of the companies are based in popular offshore tax havens. It is classed as an 'investment fund'.

The 'advisers' of that investment fund are Peter Kenyon (former Chelsea CEO) and Jorge Mendes (Jose Mourinho's agent). To cut a long story short, the 'investor' in this 'investment fund' is likely to be Roman Abramovich and/or Chelsea Football Club.

The flow chart is particularly interesting, it shows how complicated the structure is. It effectively shows that 50% of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel was owned by Roman Abramovich when we signed him, hence "bought Ricky Van Wolfswinkel from Chelsea". They bought that 50% share for about £2m, and we had to buy out their share because third party ownership is banned in English football, so £4.25m to Roman Abramovich, and £4.25m to Sporting Lisbon.

Agreed. If he signed a contract, presumably on high wages, and is now out of favour then surely the loan fee would be relatively low as they would want to get him off the books rather than rotting on the bench picking up his paycheck from WBA's account.

Mel and Irvine rated him Pulis doesn't. If I'm being fair his inconsistency in the prem has shown its maybe a step too far. Mulumbu will back soon and Fletcher's pushed everybody down a peg. Awesome championship player though

Damn missed this or would have Multiquoted. We wanted a swap for Martin Olsson. That can't happen now. I suspect if he does come it'll only be on a loan to buy deal meaning you'll just defer payment until the end of the year
