This is a tough one for me, obviously he is a Norwich Legend but the recent revelations have really soured him for me (I wanted him to get the job here before it all came out). I have a feeling he will probably do a good job for Wigan and I expect to see Holty back in the lineup soon but I do think he is a product of 'old football' and the game would be better off without his sort of 'banter'.

I'm surprised that Malky has landed a job so quickly. 

But if the primary argument against Ched Evans being permitted to train at Sheffield United is that he hasn't apologised to his victim and shown remorse.

Then surely the strongest argument for Malky Mackay being given an opportunity at Wigan is that he has apologised and shown remorse?

We can't live in a society which just discards everybody who ever does anything wrong. Imagine how big the welfare bill would be if anybody who ever committed a crime was never given a second chance. In fact, if Malky Mackay weren't famous, then no employer would ever have known about the texts because even if they were discovered he wouldn't have been required to declare it on a job application (no criminal record). 

Phil Smith the football agent, who was actually the subject of his Jewish slur, has cleared the air with him and accepted his apology. Vincent Tan has never accepted his apology, but Tan hardly came out of the whole thing smelling of roses did he. He went through great expense to hire private investigators to investigate Mackay with an accusation of financial impropriety, obtained a court warrant to search his property and seize equipment, and the best that he could come up with was two offensive text messages which didn't break the law. 

There are much bigger fish to fry. We are living in an age where neo-nazis and football hooligans are marching through our towns and cities making nazi salutes and chanting "Allah, Allah, who the f*ck is Allah", chanting songs about bombing mosques, and threatening anybody who looks like they could possibly happen to a muslim. I don't condone Malky's behaviour, and nobody would find outgoing texts of that nature from my phone, but in the real world...... perhaps we've all got bigger things to worry about. I don't really see the benefit in ruining his career, and I'd rather him than Paulo Di Canio..... who was recently managing in the Premier League despite being an open fascist with a history of making nazi salutes! 

His two texts, however moronic, do not make him the new Nick Griffin. 

And Malky's actions were those which wouldn't under normal circumstances have had any realistic prospect of a 'victim'. If anything I think that what Carlo Nash did, driving at 140 miles an hour, is worse. Because there is an obvious potential victim there, anybody he smashes into.

There were no texts from Mackay's phone which could be described as sexist or homophobic, those came from Iain Moody's phone.

Yes most of the texts came from Moody's phone, two from Malky's, 

Texts from Malky: 

"Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that sees money slipping through his fingers"

"Fkn chinkys. Fk it. There's enough dogs in Cardiff for us all to go around"

From a footballing point of view though it's probably the best option they could've chosen.

Yeah a bit strange, because he has already admitted sending the texts, apologised and attended an equality and diversity course. A bit odd that Wigan have insisted on that clause, and that Malky has agreed to it, unless there is something we don't know about? Perhaps that is what Wigan are worried about, the possibility that more may come out?

Well... This could end badly. I assume Wigan are confident the investigation will clear him otherwise it seems a bit of a crazy punt otherwise, considering there are candidates out there without this kind of stuff hanging over them.

It isn't accurate to attribute the two bold type labels to Malky Mackay. 

That doesn't get him off the 'racism' charge, and I'm in no way condoning that, but it is a little annoying that the misleading way that the Daily Mail first reported this incident has become the accepted version of events. I can remember saying at the time (on the big thread that we have about Malky Mackay) that if you read the article very carefully a reader was just about able to ascertain which texts came from Malky and which texts came from Moody. 

The sexist and homophobic tweets were sent from Moody's phone, not Malky's. Further up the thread I've stated which two texts came from Malky's phone.
