Well in the end it was a hard-fought but well deserved win. Ipswich pushed us hard to be fair and when they got that equaliser I thought they were going to go on and win it, but once Redmond scored you could see that it took all the wind out of Ipswich's sails, and Jerome's goal then killed them off. They did very well in the first half of nullifying our attack, and were actually the better team first half, even if their style of play was more typical of something you'd see at Twickenham. Second half though we immediately looked slightly better going forward, and as soon as we got the penalty and Berra got sent off the game opened up and we were able to take advantage.
For us I thought Bassong was easily MOTM. Had Murphy in his pocket all game and just won everything in the air. Jerome and Redmond are also up there as well. Jerome was superb, never stopped working and caused real problems for Smith and Berra at the back. In the end as well he got his goal, which I think is his first since March so that'll hopefully give him a confidence boost before Boro (not that he really needed it). Redmond first half was barely in the game. He actually looked scared of Tyrone Mings a little, and Mings was able to deal with him most of the time. Second half though he was given more of a free role, and it definitely showed, he was so much more lively and caused Ipswich problems, and it showed from the fact he was involved in all 3 goals. First goal his shot was going in until Berra blocked it on the line with his hand, which obviously lead to the penalty that Wes converted. Second goal he scored, and 3rd goal he got the assist for Jerome, which now puts him on 13 assists for the season and 5 goals as well, which is a pretty good return, and he has certainly improved his all-round game a lot this season. I also thought that Whittaker was pretty solid all game. In the second half everyone played well, but first half there were quite a few poor performances.
Anyway, onto the big one. All that we've done this season and yet now our whole campaign hinges on this game. Got my ticket for it, I'm just praying that we don't perform how we have done in our last couple of games against Boro. I don't think we will, I think it'll much tighter this time. Still gonna be an incredibly tough game though.
