Did anyone else see the live game, for once on BBC?
I kept an eye open for our youngster, and my conclusion is that he did not look out of place.
Much of the time he spent chasing the ball, as it went across the field from MU player to MU player, but he was not alone in this. I missed the pre-game pundit discussion, so I was not entirely sure what position the lad was occupying. He clearly got forward regularly and needed to as the Cambridge striking force was very weak.
I shall remember his contribution for a number of good passes, and two in particular which brought praise from the commentator. In the first half he produced an almost instinctive 30 or 40 yard pass inside and beyond the left back. Unfortunately Donaldson, the best Cambridge player, managed to waste it. In the second half, in one of the Cambridge's few attacks, he picked out and delivered an inch-perfect pass through a crowd of players to the left winger, but again nothing came from it due to a lack of control.
It struck me that we could have done with passes like this last season and this, with perhaps only Wes and Howson able to match it.
Cambridge were quietly impressive, but perhaps MU were not. In particular the well-organised Cambridge defence and keeper stood out, and it was good to see Nelson playing so well, as he did with us.
