Looks like Tyrone Mings is going to Bouremouth for £8m. 

What do people think of this? Personally think it's a lot of money, he's a decent talent but unrpoven. He doesn't even have an U21 cap, how much would this put Redmond at?

Ipswich have got a better deal than Bournemouth there, I think.

Saw someone say on an Ipswich forum he's not even worth half that, and I tend to agree.

Will be interesting to see what B'mouth spend the rest of their money on, because I don't think they have spent well so far.

He is no doubt a decent player with lots of potential, but spending that sort of money on a full back in your first season in the EPL, that I am not sure about, you wouldnt get our club gambling 8 million like that, lol. Great deal for the BInners though, laughing all the way to the bank and I bet MMc has a replacement lined up that costs nowt!

I actually think Mings is a good player, and although £8m is probably a little steep right now, he has the potential to go and be a very good left back. He's young and he's English so he's automatically going to be in demand of a relatively big fee. He looked very good over the 2 play-off games we played against them, and forced Redmond to have to play inside as he was getting no joy out of him down our right. Technically he's pretty poor. Distribution is not particularly good, neither is his crossing, and his heading, despite his size, is not great. However what he is is incredibly powerful. Very quick and very strong and for those reasons he's really very hard to get past, as Redmond found out. If he can improve the technical side of his game I think he'll end up at a top side eventually.

I definitely think he's better than what he showed against us. But he will be playing against sides better than us every week now. If he doesn't improve his game, then its a huge waste of money and a risky investment. 

But i'm not surprised they're splashing the cash a bit. I think people forget they have a rather wealthy backer just because its a nice little story. If they keep spending that kind of cash, they could be in trouble if they go back down

Usually I'd give a young English player credit for choosing regular football over the status / money associated with going to a big club and sitting on the bench. But in this instance I think Mings has made the wrong decision in joining Bournemouth if it is true that Arsene Wenger wanted him (Mick McCarthy seems to think their interest was genuine).

I reckon Wenger would have moved him to centre back, and what a centre back he could be with his pace and ability to pass + carry the ball out of defence, especially as hes left footed. I rate Mings even as a full back, but come on, what on earth is a player of his stature doing playing at left back - he could be the next Rio Ferdinand. 

I'd have had Mings at Norwich without a doubt and he's likeable for a scummer too, always seems grounded.

Interesting that Bournemouth,  who conceeded fewer goals than us last season, are investing (I wouldnt necessarily say strengthening given who they have signed..) in their back line.   Just hope we do the same our weakest point.

Perhaps £8m (and the weakness in the U21s defending performance) shows the lack of up and coming talent?

Well done ipswich for extracting such a sum,  if it is accurate,  so such a bog average defender.

I wonder how much he's really signing for, selling clubs will often inflate the transfer fee (by including potential add-ons) to appease fans. I bet its a potential 8m with actual fee being a fair bit less.

I like him, but wouldnt want to pay that kind of money for him
