Much of that comes down to what is seen as a scoring chance. Some stats are more fluid in their definitions than others. This was a problem I had in hockey. The game is fluid with much fewer resets (any time action is stopped, in soccer that would be a foul, throw-in, GK, CK, or goal) than the other sports, who from most to least are ordered baseball-basketball-football. Soccer has the least resets. It's just a matter of developing measures that are meaningful and well-defined.
