Most depressing signing?

What was the signing that (when first linked) made your heart sink, that you prayed for days wouldnt happen, then made you feel absolute exasperation when the deal was confirmed?

Or as a variation on a theme, the player signed to replace a star who had left, which was a massive let-down

Mike Sheron replacing Chris Sutton and Peter Thorne replacing Dean Ashton comes instantly to mind

I have to admit not many spring to mind for me. I generally get a wave of excitement when we sign someone, regardless of how good they actually are.

One i can think of however is Kyle Lafferty. It wasn't because i thought he was a terrible player, it was just because it was such a reality shock that these were the calibre of player we'd be signing after 3 years in the Prem. I do miss the days when we were linked to players like Klose and Aubameyang...

Most from that 2009 summer;   Tudur-Jones,  Gill, Nelson, Whaley,  Wiggins, Askou, Theo - simply affirmation of the depths that we had fallen to.   

And maybe Jarrett and Hughes in for Francis or Holt had a similar impact.

yeah, Hughes was a reality check. Never have i seen a player run so hard for 90 minutes, but with such little idea for direction or purpose.

Think I remember reading that he was Worthington's key signing that season - the first name on his target list

I remember Chris Brown being awfull for Sunderland then we signed him and just confirmed how rubbish he was
