Is he our first player from DR Congo? Does the 2 year deal strike anyone as being a bit short? West Brom fans seem to rate him, look forward to seeing some more muscle in our midfield

Both him and Dorrans have signed 2 year deals. That could indicate that they are on relatively high wages and the club want to reevaluate before extending or the players are making their exits easier if we were to get relegated next season.
I'd hope the club have the option to trigger an extension but I don't think I've read anything to suggest that that is the case.

On Mulumbu, Neil consulted Dean Kiely, our goal-keeping coach, about his temperament and then said: “Dean worked with him at West Brom and said he’s a great lad, good in the changing room and that there certainly won’t be any issues. That’s one of the most important things for me because you’re only as good as your team spirit. We have to make sure we get the right type of player who isn’t going to take away from what we have built up here. He’s a complete team player and you can see that in the way he plays, so he’ll be a good fit for us. We’re really pleased to sign him and I think he’ll add to the squad.”

That's interesting actually, as some West Brom fans on another forum said that he was useless as a box-to-box player, and was much better at protecting the back 4, in the same way Tettey does.

With this signing we should certainly have enough muscle this season. Tettey and VOO look likely to have fitness issues (though Tettey may be helped by the lack of midweek games in the Prem) but if they can stay fit, adding them to Mulumbu and BJ (though I would hope he gets the chance to play a little further forward now) we should not be found wanting when we want a robust midfield.
Really hope we get to see some of VOO this year. Could be the surprise package

Anyone know why WBA have let him go ? is it a change of manager thing ?
My guess is that in the Prem we'll mainly go with 5 in midfield including Wes and Redmond to give the mix of threats that worked so well against Boro. With 3 solid midfielders and a striker like CJ who can be effective on his own, this can work really well. Be interesting to see how AN approaches it and whether he drops Wes or Redmond when we're going away to the bigger teams.
