I've never once seen him play but after a quick read on him and seeing how much he's played for the Dutch youth system, seems like a promising prospect. Where did you see the rumour?

He was given shirt no.6 and with the large number of games Chelsea will play it wouldn't surprise me if they were planning on using him.

He's a very highly rated young defender, i'd be surprised if Chelsea let him out on a season-long loan to be honest.

Yes, DM as well as LB. Played against our under 18s in the Youth Cup Final. Looked classy then.

I work with a big Chelsea fan and he can't see Ake going out on loan this season. We shall see.

They are reported to have a bit of interest in Benatia, so if they got him or another CB then maybe Ake would go out on loan.

Ake is an odd one - a CB who's only 5'11". Must make up for it with pace and jumping ability.

I remember Darren Kenton persistently out-leaping big strikers and he was even shorter than that!
For a better-quality example, Ivan Cordoba of Colombia and Inter was a terrific centre half whose pace, athleticism and reading of the game more than made up for his lack of height.

Taking it even further, what about Fabio Cannavaro, for my money one of the greatest ever CB's, he was only 5'9

As long as you compliment them with the right players (a tall partner at the back, a couple of physical MF's and a tall striker to help at set pieces) then it doesn't have to be a big issue.

I used to love Kents, he was good at either RB or CB. Seemed to have a bit of an attitude, though, as I remember? I think that stunted his development more than his actual ability...

Ake is decent, he was taken out of the second leg of the FA yoot final so he could join up with the senior squad in a champs league tie. Chelsea paid a huge amount for him as a kid. It would do hom no harm to do a season in the Championship...has to be better for him than sitting on the bench for Chelsea.

Would imagine he'd have plenty of low-level Premier League suitors – Chelsea would probably prefer he get top-level experience, as with Lukaku in the last couple of years. Would be almost as much of a coup as Scott Sinclair...
