Bit of a strange one? His goalscoring record isn't very impressive at all on paper, but on the Nottingham Forest forum they all seem to want him back and some are saying that he'd do really well for us.

And he has 16 Portugal caps.

Hopefully if we bring this player in on loan it will be one of two striker signings?

Yeah wouldn't mind him as a 3rd choice option but would be worried if we were bringing him in to be our number 9.

From what Neil said in his interview as well it sounds as if he has no plans for Lafferty, which would definitely indicate 2 strikers coming in.

Looks a decent player from youtube highlights, not slow for a big(ish) man and good feet, but we all know how selective those vids are.

And Hooper and Grabban only scored 12 each last time we were in this league, so I guess 9 in 28 for Forest isn't terrible.

Would just be a bit of a letdown if this is all we get up front after being linked with McCormack and Mbokani, hoping for a bit of a marque signing really!

I know we've got Alex Pritchard which is a huge signing for us, but really hoping for somebody who is a clear level up on Jerome.

My guess is that we want to bring in two strikers, to put Lafferty out of his misery and allow Carlton Morris back out on loan. And if we can tie up this Nelson Oliviera signing it would at least reduce my anxiety levels, as he'd be better than nothing if we are leaving things late again.

Him and somebody with pace (Wells would be the obvious choice) and I'd be very happy.

Sadly I think the only previously linked player we'll get is N'Doye.

Said about him on another forum I'm on and the Forest and Swansea fans seem convinced that in a team like ours he'd thrive. Apparently he was a victim of Dougie Freedman's negative tactics at Forest and yet still managed to get 9 goals.

On the Forest forum they seemed to be saying that he'd thrive in a team like ours who could play through balls and get him in on goal.

So I guess he isn't a target man!

At the end of the day some of our best signings have come from tinpot clubs and reached levels which would never have previously have been expected of them, we signed Grant Holt from League 2 and he scored 15 goals in one season in the toughest league in the world. We signed Hoolahan for £300k from Blackpool and he's going to be getting a Wessimonial and just scored a brilliant goal in the Euros.

And some of our highest profile signings have been miserable failures like Van Wolfswinkel.

Perhaps this Oliviera could be a genius signing, and when you look at his goalscoring record he has actually significantly outperformed Van Wolfswinkel in the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1 when it comes to goals per game. Some people were seriously suggest that we keep and play RVW this summer, so if we are using him as the benchmark....

Benfica aren't exactly tinpot.
That weren't really my point, but rather that many our best signings from before I can even remember haven't been the big ticket or high profile headline grabbing transfers. At the moment Oliviera is a bloke that did alright on loan at a mid-table Championship club last season and our rivals to his signature appear to be Birmingham City.

He isn't the big statement of intent that paying £10m for Jordan Rhodes would be, or signing Ross McCormack for £12m would have been, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be a big success here, perhaps he is just what we need.

In the summer of 2013 we paid £9m for Van Wolfswinkel and that was seen as a massive signing in the football world, Brighton signed Ulloa for £2m from the Spanish 2nd division and most people wouldn't even have noticed or said "who?", one scored 1 English league goal and the other now has 40 and a Premier League winners medal.

To get a top championship striker you have to pay them well I am not convinced we pay the big wages so we would not attract a player like a Dwight Gayle, Ross McCormack, Jordon Rhodes we are too tight.

Who is our biggest earner ? Any ideas I guess it would be Naismith

Did I read a stat more goals per min than Rhodes last season?  Although hooper did that for us in the promotion season yet didnt score against a side outside the bottom 6/7.

The forest fans like him and it seems he is suited to the champs;   def a step up on lafferty or morris so to be welcomed at this stage - would hope that we would still be looking for another.

It is rapidly getting to the stage where we will have to persuade someone to come here. This guy has a CV but no evidence to back it up only testimony from some Forest fans. But would they be so happy and ready to agree if it was Assomblaonga?

Not a fan of loan signings so I am not convinced but would be delighted to be proved wrong but our scouting system.

AN has said that the Oliveira deal would be on a permanent contract, not a loan, so my guess is that he'd get the number 9 shirt, especially as AN considers him a "a modern day number 9" according to Paddy Davitt. The most likely other rumour is Enner Valencia, who West Ham are willing to let leave (possibly on loan) once they sign a new striker, which they are about to do in the form of Simone Zasa from Juve. Valencia is described as an Ecuadorian international "jet-heeled" striker with a powerful shot as well. His goal-scoring record is uneven, but at 5'8" he'd provide another option. Early days on this one, but it could happen as a loan deal (West Ham paid £12m for him). Stephano Okaka, who has also been mentioned, seems more unlikely to me because he'd be yet another in the number 9 striker mold and therefore too similar to Jerome and Oliveira. My thoughts anyway.

If Oliveira is perminant then I'd be happy enough with Valencia on loan. Would prefer a proven goalscorer at this level (Wells, Rhodes), but if we end the transfer window with Jerome, Oliveira and Valencia as our options I'd be pretty happy.
