I agree, and how is it different to "Head of Scouting"?

Surely they are both part of the same job?

I can only imagine the head of scouting is the actual scouting of players, where as head of recruitment looks into the finances of any deal and helps convince players to dot the i's and cross the t's

Yeah you're probably right.

Truth be told the whole scouting and recruitment department is a bit of a mystery, I have no idea how many scouts we have and where they operate.

The scouting side of things is led by Lee Darnborough isn't it ? Presumably once he's identified a player AN would need to check him out ? Would that then go to our our new head of recruitment to start negotiations ? I'm confused, starting to sound like too many chiefs.

I believe that Lee Darnbrough, our head of scouting, acts as a link between the various scouting teams and the 'committee', I don't know the ins and outs but you'd imagine we have a pretty big operation going right now so it's certainly a role which is needed. He'd be involved in all areas of scouting, be it traditional man in an overcoat watching some under 15s game in the rain or the statistics/analysis/science side. Darnbrough's background is in the latter of those two. 

You'd imagine that a head of recruitment would be doing a lot of the things that McNally was doing over last couple of windows. He's got some decent experience by the looks of it so lets hope he brings some nice contacts to the table.

I'm sure some people are already whining about this, too many cooks and all that, but I think this is something that the board have been planning for a while. I think a lot of these people assumed that Darnbrough was going to be more involved in getting players here, like he was in his previous job.

Hmmmmm, could well be.

I imagine there are plenty of far more prickly characters than David McNally in the business.on the sides of both clubs and agents.

If we're to believe David McNally then we missed out on a few deals in the summer because other clubs didn't sign replacements. I think that's more likely.

If it means that we can "scour Europe" even better than when we uncovered that EPL sensation "The Wolf", then I am very happy about this appointment.........."beware of the Big Bad Wolf".........
