New shirt sponsor - do you care who?

So Aviva's deal as shirt sponsor is coming to an end and a new sponsor is being sought. My question is, do you care who the club sign up? Is it a case of money is money regardless of where it comes from, or are you more principled or fussy than that? Personally I always thought that having the Digital Phone Company as sponsor, a local company that no one outside of the region (or many inside) had heard of, was more akin to a Sunday league team rather than a team with serious EPL aspirations. I have to admit that I would also like to have a good looking logo on the front of the shirt. When we were sponsored by Proton I bought the away shirt pretty much for no other reason than I thought that the Lotus logo was much cooler than Proton's! For the new sponsor I'd hope to see the club demonstrate some corporate responsibility by not partnering with companies such as pay day loan or gambling companies, but that said, how ethical is any big business? How ethical is NCFC?

The club already have partnered with a gambling company in Coral.

Can't say I really care which name goes on the shirt as long as it doesn't look too naff, like Wonga or Mansion.

I would like to see Waitrose (yes I know they sponsor Reading), could have happened I guess when Delia was working with them. 

I truly hope the Board steer clear of off-shore betting or payday loans companies.

There are definitely some sponsors that would put me off buying a shirt, and a payday lender or a gambling company would be top of the list.

Otherwise I can't think of too many I'd object too.  I didn't have a problem with the phone company sponsor, we were in the 2nd tier at that point and you see some fairly minor companies sponsoring teams there.

Which reminds me, must order this season's away kit....

Barcelona went one step further and actually paid their sponsor to use their logo on their shirts for 5 years (Unicef).

I personally don't have any issue with accepting a major gambling brand as a sponsor. I don't really see what ethical questions it raises, in fact I think it would be hugely hypocritical of a Premier League club to take a moral stance against gambling whilst happily accepting and spending Sky's money (Sky Bet a huge part of their business?). 

We've been sponsored by an alcohol brand in the past (Foster's?), and people develop problems with that also. I wouldn't have a problem with an alcohol company either. 

What I would have an issue with is any business which resembles a loan shark, so any payday loan companies and companies like brighthouse where people get in debt paying monthly for appliances and TV's. 

Fortunately our fanbase won't be their target market. There's a reason why Wonga sponsor teams like Newcastle and Blackpool, instead of Norwich and York.

That being said I don't remember seeing sponsors on West Ham or Forest's shirts this season. Not sure if it's to do with anniversaries or they just haven't found one yet.

Kettle Chips would be a possible serious contender? Norwich based business with £81m turnover and a brand sold nationally?

Other than that perhaps Midwich or Virgin Money? Usually a sponsor does have local links.

Anglian Windows a possibility? Also a large national company. 

Aviva is a big loss really isn't it, they are by far the biggest company synonymous with Norfolk, I wonder why they are pulling the plug.

I always suspected that the Aviva deal was tied in with the dropping of the Norwich Union brand, and helping get the new name into the city's collective consciousness. Probably just me be conspiratorial!

Wow, had no idea that QD was mostly an Eastern based chain of stores! 

Likewise Hughes Electrical, most of their shops seem to be in East Anglia too, didn't realise that either, always thought it was a national chain. 

I looked at a Top 100 businesses in Norfolk/Suffolk list for ideas, who'd have thought that Roys of Wroxham turns over £51m a year. The Roy family must be the Norfolk Cosa Nostra.

I wouldn't mind a sponsorless shirt to be honest, In the long run how much money does it bring in to the club, a couple of million a season for a club our size I'd guess, but in reality that is nothing in the premiership, its just one players wages for the season, not exactly a huge amount in todays football economy

Apparently our shirt sponsorship deal with Aviva is worth just £1m per season, the joint lowest in the league this year.

Perhaps the termination of our relationship is not a result of Aviva not being interested, but McNally increasing the price, would make sense to me. 

Stoke get £3m per year from Bet365 so whilst some may not want us to be sponsored by a gambling business, it pays well... if we remain in this league. 

Swansea get £4m per year from a Forex trading platform. 

West Brom get £2.3m from a betting company. 

We should be thankful to Aviva really, they may have got a great deal because of our Premier League spells but they took a gamble and backed us when we were shite. That income was likely really important when we were in League One, and they paid far more than a League One sponsorship deal is really worth, if we'd not got out of that league we'd probably be sponsored by Notcutts or Jarrolds by now.

I think it does matter. I read the review of the Premier League shirts and quite a few times it said 'another decent shirt ruined by an awful sponsor'. Utd just dont look half as classy with Chevrolet on their shirts, and Im sure Leeds (when at their depths) had an asbestos removal company on their shirt.

The brand has to fit. You wouldnt want 'Cheetos' or something on your shirt. You want it to look classy not cheap. I know how incredibly snobby that sounds, but Wonga as used above would be awful.

Quite a few sponsors in the Prem are also aimed at the east with non-roman alphabet characters. I personally dont think thats a great look

Nice idea TGMD, I'd also have liked the old N&P logo from our classic 'canary dropping' shirt, maybe we could do this for a 25th anniversary edition in 2017 along with that same design???
