As there is an American influence, it is probably Gerard Butler?
I think that the owner may be the one with the deep pockets and his role in this appointment was probably quite important (more than the senior management? Who knows). Well, substitute probably for certainly. He wanted to get the best shot at success and maybe didn't just want to leave the decision with Knapper, who lets be honest failed badly with the Manning appointment.Biffo the Bear wrote:- I am a Rangers supporter. Clement is a genuinely good manager. He was sold down the river by the Rangers Board of Directors at the start of the 24/25 season and because of their very poor decision making he was not given the financial backing he was promised. If the Norwich Board backs him he won't let you down.
Have I missed something here? PC has come to work at NCFC and his experience was that the Board at Rangers did not support him. We are talking Knapper and Zoe Webber here. They are not going to be queuing up to save his neck if things do not work out as we all hope.
I'm sure he was part of the recruitment process, of course, but this was a more considered process perhaps, involving the data teams as well as the personal attention of MA. That said, I think Clement had carried out his own checks and analysis by watching a whole tranche of our games (poor him). That must have been pre-planned you'd imagine? The videos being prepared? Assume Knapper was involved with that? PC could see some strengths in the team (though he would say that) but now we get to see what a new manager can do.Sonyc, I would tend to agree with you there, but if MA bypassed Knapper and used someone else for recruitment advice, Knapper's position is untenable. If this appointment proves to be successful in the short term, as it needs to be and we hope that it will be, Knapper's input in the January transfer window will be negligible. If that proves to be the case, then the question needs to be asked "What is the Club's reason for him being there?"
At least now we’ll know either way. If Clement gets the team winning enough games to be in playoff form for the back half of the season then we could argue the players bought were good enough (even if we overspent) and it was the managers fault. If we spend the rest of the season struggling (which unfortunately I feel is more likely) then we’ll know Knapper has bought dross and he needs to go.I'm sure he was part of the recruitment process, of course, but this was a more considered process perhaps, involving the data teams as well as the personal attention of MA. I think the change of SD at the same time as the manager dismissal was a step too far. And MA has a team in place after all. I imagine he will be involved in the recruitment in January though I would expect Clement to have a lot of input. Clement looks a completely different proposition to Manning doesn't he? I also think BK's position is definitely under the microscope and the view of fans (the MA radio interview) has been listened to.
I like the appointment but am still worried we can turn things round quickly enough. Can we magically expect everything to change? Probably we shouldn't.
The club's position? I assume some inertia and a bit of panic about where we find ourselves. Relegation form will quickly intensify the attack onto Knapper rather than the new coach. Because his recruitment will be laid bare.
Much depends I think on Knapper's improvement in communicating with fans. A statement in the annual accounts isn't good enough. Nor talking when he announces a new coach! He needs to be more accountable. It won't do him any harm but much more of him being incognito certainly will. He needs to mend some fences. He will hope for changes in the league position because he can then claim a role in bringing in a saviour.
Sonyc, I do not disagree with your analysis that communication with the fan base in both directions , telling and listening, has been non-existent, but I doubt any of us expect the EDP or the Pink 'Un to ask searching or embarrassing questions as the local media have been in the club's pocket for years.Let's hope that PC will be open and honest about any failings in future. On another more cheerful issue, congratulations to Our Kenny on the wonder goal he scored for Scotland last night, and our hopes that, after that ,he is on the plane next year to USA/Mexico/ Canada.
That's our Kenny. Good man.![]()
Oh dear, Canaries… Kenny admits he’s 'worse for wear' after World Cup celebrations
Norwich City captain Kenny McLean admitted he is a little worse for wear heading back after his late heroics in Scotland's 4-2 win over Denmark.www.eveningnews24.co.uk
I loved it. Little known fact I am actually Scottish! Moved away when I was young and was never really bothered about the football when I was there, but really pleased for them! That's our Kenny. Good man.
He can have a few gaffes in his game from time to time but always gives everything and for the 400k (wasn't it?) and his 7 to 8 years of being with us he's been great value. Wonder if PC will play him as a starter like all his previous managers. You wouldn't ever bet against it.
I loved that match last night. A proper, proper game of football. The end was surreal and is up there as a great sporting moment.
You're lucky I reckon because you'll understand completely what it means as a fan (same with Ireland, Wales). Those fans won't forget that. My missus is about 10% Scottish in her DNA but it was me shouting at the screen last night.I loved it. Little known fact I am actually Scottish! I enjoy seeing people slagging Kenny off, then trying to work out why we look worse when he isn't in the team!

I don't profess to be any kind of expert at this, I played football a bit, only for fun, it was no great standard. I have been watching Norwich City now for 31 years (Probably a lot less time than some here) and I like to think I have a reasonable appreciation of the game, I like to study a player, I always used to love watching Gary Holt, how he did the hard yards and really knitted things together, I see Kenny in the same vein, except he is much better.Happens all the time, people don't realise what he does in a game
I was more making the point that some people can't get their head around not playing with two, out and out strikers, and make the assumption that two strikers is more attacking than, say, a striker and a ten. The game has moved on, and it was a general comment about some of our fan's opinions, rather than being specifically about formations.Morty, you may see 4-4-2 as being old-fashioned, but I think that you, and many others, will agree that Manning's fixation with playing three at the back hasn't been a huge success over the past few months. The mindset at Carrow Road for many years (Roeder?) is that the fans know nothing about the game and that has conditioned the Club's attitude to the fan base for a long time.
I don't really know enough about him to make a decision. Are we looking for a surer thing though? Someone, firstly, to keep us up, but also to drive us forward.
We need to stop this merry go round.
