Well, seeing as the thread has started to include some non-football people, I may as well include some others. I've only ever met two 'famous' people. One was Zane Lowe, when I was a student and working for Wetherspoons. He was having a drink waiting for his train. I hadnt recognized him, but someone I worked with did, and egged me to go and get his autograph for him. I didnt think it was him, so I approached him and said 'My colleague wants to know if you are Zane Lowe or whether you just look like him'. He seemed surprised somebody had recognized him and was very humble. I thought he was having me on and I was saying 'are you really Zane Lowe?' and he was laughing and saying yes he was. He didnt give it the big I am or anything, he was just a normal bloke having a drink and made a point of signing an autograph before he left, but didnt do it in an egotistical way at all. Very down to earth.
Unfortunately the other person I met was Jimmy Saville. He was wheeled in as a treat for students every year. He seemed very jovial, not much more I can say really than that. My best friend won a University prize sponsored by Jimmy Saville. He's had to take that off his CV now...
Strangely, I also have a story of when someone met me! I was travelling around Europe inter-railing after graduating. I was sat in a restaurant in Prague when this Japanese girl came up to me very excited and said 'Excuse me, but are you the actor Ethan Hawke?'. Looking very little like Ethan Hawke I was quite surprised as this had never happened before. I said that I wasnt and laughed and said she was mistaken. She wasnt having any of it though and insisted on posing for photographs with her and her family. She also made me sign a napkin as Ethan Hawke. Totally bizarre!
My other half also met Ricky Hatton on a cruise, just before he got really famous. Was very happy to pose for photographs (liked his drink even then) and was happy to talk to my father in law (who was an amateur boxer in his day) about boxing. She met John Culshaw after his flight was delayed at Barbados airport - super-nice, probably the nicest famous person she has ever met. Met Frankie Dettori and Tony McCoy - both nice and happy to sign autographs.
She also met Roy Walker on a cruise, was two cabins down from her. He sunbathed a lot and noticed they had the same sun cream. One day he even went as far as to accuse her of stealing his!
