never had confidence in wes as a penalty taker, I'd hate to see what his success rate is, but it cant be good, Redmonds was awful also, but the most annoying thing for me is that some of our regular players have played an extra 30 minutes tonight essentially for no reason, could of just lost in normal time really and had some fresher players for the man city game, not that i'm criticizing them for trying but just feel that extra 30 minutes could be a factor at the weekend, thought we gave a decent account of ourselves though all things considered, had it been a league game I'm sure everyone of us would of taken a 1-1 draw going in to it

Quite enjoyed game. No one gets black marks from me tonight. 2 good pens from Whitts and Grabban,2 guys under a fair bit of pressure. Bennett and Bassong both hobbling badly, hope it is just tiredness

2 big pluses in Ryan Bennett and Youssuff Mulumbu. Think I can see us finding a balance in the coming weeks.

Yeah but Bennett playing well at CB probably means Martin at right back....which I'd rather not see.

just back from the game - good performance against a strong Everton side. Should've put one of those chances away but there you are, hopefully we'll carry this performance into the league.

So, are people saying that we should now consider a Bennett-Bassong partnership? Bennett to finally get regular football?

I always felt he suffered because he was too similar to Turner, which pretty much just rendered him Turner's deputy, we couldn't play Turner and Bennett together and that limited his football.

But without a doubt our best partnership under Hughton was that Turner-Bassong pairing, so if Bennett could come and do a fairly good job of imitating Turner then that would be beneficial.

If that can happen we can then work out our right back selection based on who plays the best alongside Bennett. I'm not a big Whittaker fan but he probably has shown the most this season, then again Wisdom has started twice now alongside Bennett and Bassong and we've conceded 1 goal in 2 games against Premier League opponents (even if not their strongest sides).

All of the above hindered if Russell Martin is considered undroppable.

I do think that Russell Martin is rapidly being sussed out as the weak link though, and whilst we don't have enough defenders to have the luxury of just writing him off, I do think he needs a spell on the bench.

Alex Neil needs to work out his best back 5 as soon as possible and get it settled if we are going to succeed this year. Brady and Olsson are possibly interchangeable but I do think we need to establish who our best right back is and then stick with him.

Bennet and Bassong looked good together last night, as did Rudd.

Good problems for the manager to have.

Am thinking Russ could be missing out soon.
