Here's a stat: In the 8 league games where we've taken the lead so far this season, we've won 6 of them and drawn the other 2. We haven't won a single game in which we've conceded the first goal.

Really shows how important the first goal will be today.

We grew into that half, and probably had the better chances, but ultimately both sides look nervous and severly lacking quality. Big second half coming up.

The quality just isn't there sadly, while there may be a chance of us staying up you only have to look at the last 10 games to realise we just won't have what it takes.

We needed significant defensive reinforcements in the summer.

Unfortunately the manager has been utterly determined to build a defence around Russell Martin. Which shows a serious lack of judgement and understanding of what is required at this level.

Got to agree with this. We can't blame the ref today, just a total lack of quality and inability to make and take chances against very mediocre opposition.

Can't see us avoiding relegation so the issue of defensive reinforcements is the least of our worries. Being tight-fisted when it comes to buying a decent striker is what is really killing us. Clearly Bamford isn't ready yet and it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't score all season. £10 million on Afobe might have saved us.

I agree that we needed to buy better strikers or a better striker. We needed upgrades at both ends of the pitch.

But building a defence around Martin. Woeful.

Fck fck fck.

The fat lady clears her throat. I think we stood a decent chance of staying  with these players. I can't put my finger on up they have not been as effective as they could be. The manager has to take some responsibility for that although I would still vote to stick with him.

Fair question and I have to admit my case is not that strong. It's really down to the potential we saw last season and early this season when we came so close to combining exciting football with getting points.

What happened to this incredible away form that we had under Alex Neil? Can't remember the last time we actually looked like winning a game away from home.

You can almost forgive the players if they lack quality but put up a fight and show that they have the desire to want to stay up, just like they did against Chelsea earlier this week. But today we didn't were shambolic (again). No fight and so little ability, in a massive game against a team who, to be honest, were not particularly good for most of the game.

Why the f*ck did we buy Pinto? Absolutely useless defensively and can't cross to save his life either. Naismith doesn't look interested and was plain sh*t today, Martin is just poor, and Tettey, Brady and Bassong, 3 of our best players, are all injured. Honestly don't know how we're going to find a win from anywhere. Ruddy and Klose are the only players who can say they didn't play badly today, that said I think Klose was a bit lucky not to concede a penalty.

Usually I try and look for positives after games, but there are absolutely none today. We've lost 8 of our last 9 games, we've only picked up 3 points away from home since the end of September (that really is a dire stat),not picking up any points in away games since mid-December, we don't have a goalscorer in our whole team, we've kept 3 clean sheets in the league all season, our most important player, Tettey, is out for the rest of the season, we don't seem to turn up for the '6 pointers', and above it all most of the players don't even seem bothered.

Manchester City next, in other words another defeat, but then after that we have West Brom, Newcastle, Palace, Sunderland and Watford. If we assume that we won't get anything from our final 3 games, I think we'll need 4 wins from those 5, or at the very least 3 wins and 2 draws. At the moment it looks a challenge to simply draw one of those games. I will stick with Alex Neil, even if we go down, but I really fear the worst right now, and have to say think he got it wrong today by changing the system from 3-4-3.

No doubt now we'll concede an early goal against Manchester City, play really well for the whole rest of the game, create chances but lose narrowly, everyone will get their hopes up again, only for us to do exactly what we did today against West Brom, another massive game.

Lost the togetherness. You can tell it won't be a happy camp.

Some players get dropped for things that other players don't.

Never really recovered from Newcastle.

Poor, not impressed. Now back in Romania. Got to the West Ham game, which, despite the result I did enjoy, as a game,... ???s Why did we spend all the Summer window, chasing an International winger, and play him as a full back?  Why did we spend two windows chasing an International no 10 and play him as a winger?..I keep seeing the answer as Hoolahan..I really don't think he is the answer. Yes he plays well....Sometimes, that is not good enough..Why did we chase Bamford, poor sod? 2 minutes here and there, although he did get more today, was not his fault that we were crap in front of goal. Martin getting some flak, but when was the last time that he played as a left back.Sorry Din,I don't think that Pinto was useless, Naismith was thrown out on the left wing, he is not a winger. Guess I'm completely wrong in criticising Hoolahan

I agree about Hoolahan. You've got to consider his age. He looks like he's lost his edge and isn't really capable of creating anything. Hard decisions have to be made, not just fudging the issue.

You're not wrong at all, Hoolahan was one of many players that performed below the standard expected of them for this sort of game, he lost possession far too often and didn't really create anything solid. That said, he did occasionally find a good pass or make something happen, more than most. Whatever you say about Wes though, he has 4 goals and 8 assists this season and has proved in quite a few games what a threat he still is. What has Naismith actually done since scoring on his debut against Liverpool 6 games ago? Nothing, albeit being played out of position, and today he was so poor. His positioning was woeful, he gave the ball away every time he had it, and he didn't work particularly hard.

Also, bloody nice of Leroy Fer to put in a good performance and get the assist for the deciding goal, if he had done that 2 seasons ago rather than go missing and give up when it got too hard then we might not have been relegated in the first place.

Disappointing thing for me is that we changed shape from our 343 which had been working the last couple of games, I know we didnt get the results we wanted in the Leicester or Chelsea games, but progress was definitely being made, the players seemed to of adjusted to it pretty well, and then we go and change shape back to our old formation, I've no problem with us playing 4411 as it worked well for us last season and in the early stages of this season, but it just seems that Neil is desperate to change formation/personnel every time we dont get the result we want rather than stick with it and let the team get more comfortable, changing constantly is just going to confuse the team as they dont know what they're going to be doing from one game to the next, time for us to pick a shape, pick a best eleven and go with it for the rest of the season

Also I miss Bradley Johnson, he might not be as technically gifted as some of the players we have, but he'd fight to stay up until the last whistle, something I dont see from the majority of this squad right now, and thats what we're missing more than anything, heart, grit and determination to succeed

Brady and Pinto like going forward and are effective at it: Need the sweeper to cover it. Puts Redmond a bit further up the formation as well. Baffled why AN abandoned it today.
