Well, Preston have won 1, drawn 1, lost 1, scored 3, conceded 3.

Can't get much more bang average than that. The unfortunate reality being that our record is worse but not beating Preston at home at this stage isn't going to down well (rightfully so, in all honesty).

As Herr Farke says - football is the most unfairest game in the world because the best team didn't win.
This won't be an easy game to win, Preston's draw was against Stoke if I remember correctly.

Difficult to know what to do here, last home game we were brilliant going forward but cut apart every time West Brom attacked. We started that game with Tettey as the only holding midfield player, so I'd be tempted to start one alongside him, and then we can change it up if need be. Interesting to see if Klose will play as well given the recent links away, I imagine he will though. I'd go for:

Krul
Pinto Hanley Klose Lewis
Trybull Tettey
Marshall Pukki Hernandez
Rhodes

Subs: McGovern, Godfrey, Stiepermann, Thompson, Leitner, Buendia, Srbeny
Would be good to see what Marshall can do higher up the pitch as well and have two proper full backs in the team for the first time this season, seeing as Pinto has now recovered. Difficult decision to leave Leitner out even though he had a mare at Sheffield United, as usually he is very good at linking our attack and midfield. As I said though if it's clear we need someone to do that we can bring him on at half time or the start of the 2nd half. Buendia apparently traveled with the squad on Saturday so it would be good to have him on the bench for this one. Ideally Zimmermann would be on the bench but yeah homegrown rules and all that Godfrey will have to be our centre back cover.

Gonna be a tough game, Preston have been a very good side since Alex Neil came in. Gonna say 1-1, would be fantastic if we could get our first win of the season though, would silence a lot of fans on another forum for now at least :D

dire game for the first 75 minutes or so, virtually nothing happened until we started upping the tempo towards the end, and then got 2 good goals and a deserved win in the end.

Tettey had a shocker of a game but then redeemed himself at the end with his goal, Buendia looked good for the 20 minutes or so that he was on for, looking forward to seeing more of him in the coming weeks, but thats about all I have to report from the game as like I said nothing really happened for most of the game

hopefully we can build on this now, but Leeds on Saturday will be a tough game

I'll take sh1tty, dull games but winning all season long.

Probably as bad as I've seen Tettey play, except for the goal. However, he's a trier and I would rather have someone put it in and f*ck it up than not put it in at all. There were some players out there tonight who didn't really put it in.

Just back (from the pub).

The worst we have played, and we win and keep a clean sheet, football, eh?

Buendia looks an absolute baller, Krull looking better game by game, Jamal Lewis rightly man of the match. Tettey, by his own admission, not at his best, but worth remembering he missed most of pre season. Loved Pukki, he's the player Steven Naismith should have been, and Rhodes will be a real asset to us this season. We are missing Mclean as an option in midfield who can drive the ball forward.

Also worth mentioning that PNE didn't carry much threat. AN had them setup to get men behind the ball, make it difficult for us etc.

Leeds, while maybe not quite as good as the hype around them at the moment, will almost certainly bring more firepower so the lads will need to up it on Saturday.

Yes. Based on what we have seen so far McLean looks a better prospect than Marshall.

I also think we're missing Vrancic.
It's like we have too many intricate players in midfield, and we need someone who just doesn't fanny about and drives the ball forward.

Yeah can't really add to what's been said, first half was ok, 2nd half really poor overall, last 15 minutes superb. Win and a clean sheet in our worst performance so far haha.

Tettey was awful, nice admission from him though afterwards and I had forgotten he didn't have a pre-season so it will maybe take him a few games to find that consistency. Fantastic goal at least redeemed him. Hernandez a real threat again, Buendia looking sharp when he came on, Pukki is a really good player, and dare I say Rhodes has a bit of Grant Holt about him? Marshall, Leitner a bit underwhelming, defence in general was solid, Krul looking reliable.

Nice to get the first win under our belt, hopefully now we can kick on. Tough game on Saturday though hopefully this win gives us some confidence.

Also, dunno if anyone has noticed it but the way Rhodes jogs is actually quite disturbing. Watch him on Saturday it's honestly a bit Goblin-esque :D not that I care if he scores goals.

I actually thought that as well about Vrancic. Think he would've been ideal next to Tettey today.

Also, in the last 10 minutes the atmosphere was brilliant, but at times it's so frustrating listening to how impatient some fans are. There was a point about 20 minutes in where we were knocking it around the back without being able to find a way through, and fans were jeering and booing, and a few booed at half time as well. I get it a bit more as the game goes on, and it is obviously the minority, but I don't understand who these people are who are booing 20 minutes in when we're in possession. We all want to see us make progress and play attacking football, but some people just love the opportunity to complain.

On 70 minutes my mate turned to me and said that we were pretending to be crap and wait for the last 10 minutes :)
I thought the midfield struggled all night, Leitner was too deep and needs to play higher up the pitch, agree on McLean too.
Klose after the game looked to be saying goodbye to me, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has said he is happy to stay but the club has said they’re selling him

Thanks for reports people. Had a good stream, so enjoyed game, with help from sipping potion. Marshall did what was asked of him, but wasted every corner that Hernandez won,why inswingers all the time? We were much better when we went with 3 at back.Impressed with Lewis, Hernandez, Pukki. Don't understand why Tetty was playing, Preston were never going to kick lumps out of us. Two good goals, hopefully the spell is broken. Must add that Rhodes, Pukki and Hernandez look pretty good as an attacking unit. New boy looked good and tricky

You must have had a lot of sipping potion if you enjoyed the first 80 minutes :)

Awful game, both teams were poor but all game we looked to have the little bit of extra quality in the final third which I thought might give us a chance. As poor as i've seen Tettey but with the fans booing every mistake of his towards the end, I can understand why Farke wouldn't want to replace him with a youngster in that environment. Also, Tettey keeps going and as heard in his interview, is very self-critical!

Surprised AN didn't have them attacking a bit more but probably thought based on last season frustrating the crowd and sitting deep would almost guarantee a point. Thankfully Pukki, Rhodes, Hernandez and potentially Buendia mean we have that bit more quality to get through stubborn, deep lying teams.

I actually didnt find the match as terrible as most did, and I didnt have any sipping liquid. I thought many times last season we were a lot worse than those 80 minutes, so see it as an improved poor performance :)

I doubt Tettey can play worse than that, he was all over the place, but also I was not impressed by Leitner or as I shall call him from now until he plays better consistently "Leitweight".

I too like our options up front and the glimpse Buendia certainly showed some promise.

With Lewis, yes he is a clear improvement on who has played in that position previously this season, and I did like a lot of what he did. BUT, thought his decision making was shocking at times, but know he will get better as his game matures, clearly he is going to be a top footballer.

Final point, I think we now have something close to Grant Holt in our team again, the problem is it's taking two players to do it, Pukki and Rhodes!

Didn't use much sipping potion but I thought we were controlling, although not much happening. We were sitting with 1 point and a load of goals conceded, so what's wrong with trying to work our way out off that situation? I'm pretty sure that the squad will take confidence from that win. Yes, I've been around a fair few years, attended a far few games, and watched a fair amount of crap and a fair amount of good stuff too
