The thing is if you had a player with Cameron Jerome's all round abilities and work rate but with Gary Hooper's finishing.... we wouldn't own him.

Cam Jam needed a goal for his confidence, that chance he missed at Middlesbrough showed that, hopefully he'll go on a little scoring run now.

Problem is, whilst finishing is in Oliveira's favour, choosing him is likely to result in less chances anyway, and on top of that he ends up with a similar strike rate by trying a 30 yard strike more often than not which, no matter who you are, has a low success rate.
Oh yeah I refuse to be drawn into the "who is the better striker" debate, as it is plainly obvious that they both bring very different attributes.

Indeed, a fair point.

Nelson has the better strike rate by a margin

But the team has to play in a different way to accommodate him. I think Jerome is far better suited to the system we are using just now.

Who will DF pick when they are both fit?

Nelson almost certainly

I wouldn't be so sure, if Jerome keeps scoring it would be hard to drop him. It very much depends on the quality of the opposition though, and how they set themselves out.

Keeps scoring?

History points to the likelihood that he will score again in 2.6 games.

Nelson off the bench until he scores then he'll be starting again, unless Jerome starts banging them in.

At the moment, whilst we are concentrating on defending first, I actually think Jerome may be seen as more important for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, he will make runs all game, and drag defenders out of position to create a little bit of space for our attacking midfielders. Oliviera does do this on occasion too but Burton at home was a fine example of where he didnt, and instead spent the game taking unnecessary and ill advised pot shots.

Secondly, his pace and strength on the counter is an important factor.

Really late :D But another superb win! Unlike the last one this international break came at completely the wrong time. Unreal free-kick from Maddison though, who is looking more and more like a great prospect with every game. Also pleased that Jerome got a goal as he deserved it. Farke doing a brilliant job at the moment though, at no point towards the end even with just a 1 goal lead did I think we might concede. Next Saturday can't come quick enough for me.
