I'm used to it, used to live about 50 metres from that ground in a 4th floor studio apartment and saw much worse quite regularly from my window. Had about 7 or 8 pints so struggling or can't be bothered to write RE: details. Now on the strong coffee, so perhaps in a bit.

So basically me and my old Norwich mate left the ground after the whistle from the furthest exit to the left, to immediately find two massive hooligans offering it out to people "who *f*cking* wants it", both late 40's early 50's, I wouldn't have accepted because they looked hard. Managed to avoid eye contact with them, 10 metres up the road saw a Norwich fan with an orange jacket laid out on the floor unconscious with a lot of blood coming out of his head, wouldn't surprise me if he is in a coma. Looked in a really bad way.
Transpires that the away fans had previously stormed the next gate along. The two hooligans offering it out where amongst those storming the gate in the video linked on the pinkun. I said to my mate "zip your jacket up mate, think we should walk the other way" (was wearing colours),a couple of decent United fans said "I would if I were you", which suggests they'd seen what had happened prior.
So in a nutshell, a group of United fans had decided to hang around outside of the away end waiting for the first City fans to exit. Thankfully me and my mate went for a quick wee, but was still volatile and despite missing the action by a minute or two I did note that there was just the one copper to be seen, attending to the bloke with the serious injury. Pathetic policing. Norwich fan looked in a really bad way, although there is something else I'll add in a minute.

I will add..., the orange jacket of the Norwich fan was actually a Stone Island jacket, and the bloke was about 5 foot 8 inches tall. And all of his mates, he was with a bit of a group, were all also wearing Stone Island jackets.... and the bloke in the orange Stone Island jacket had pushed in front of me in the drinks queue at half time. I was really tempted to say "just buying a £600 jacket doesn't automatically make you hard", but I'm too passive and grown up these days. Was definitely thinking it though and he looked like a smug *bleep*with a smirk on his face because he thought he was hard enough not to queue.
I'm not saying he deserves to be unconscious on the floor with two pints of blood coming out of him, felt really sorry for the chap and hope he is OK, and I don't know exactly what transpired or whether they reciprocated etc leading to them being kicked in, but I do think that if a group of opposition fans is looking for trouble then a Stone Island jacket does scream "I'm game", so I question the wisdom of a group of 25 year olds who were all sub-6 foot and didn't look particularly hard dressing in football casual clobber, because if or when trouble does arise then clearly they are going to be the ones who are targeted.
No idea whether the other two alleged injury victims were his mates or not, and it was clearly United fans looking for the trouble immediately, but none of those Stone Island gang looked harder than me and I don't think I'm hard enough to deal with the crap I'd get going to Northern away fixtures wearing Hooligan clobber. Hope they all make a full recovery and then hang up the Stone Island jackets.

My lad was there today, so I was pretty worried when I heard what had gone on. He's not daft enough to get involved with any of that nonsense, but its all too easy to be a completely innocent victim in stuff like this. Like you say though, wearing gear like that is very much setting your stall out unfortunately.

Plus the two thugs offering it out at our gate seemed happy to have it with anybody willing to give it back - they were looking for it (wouldn't be entirely surprised if they were the perpetrators of the violence on orange jacket guy),Arrest of Norwich fans seems to suggest that South Yorkshire police turn a blind eye to certain individuals, because those two didn't seem scared of anything and weren't holding back.

I've read on a Sheff Utd forum, one of their fans claimed that he and his lad shielded our fan to stop him getting worse when he was on the floor. He did add that he was no angel and was offering out Sheff Utd fans as well, which I can believe. Hope everyone ends up ok, but do wish knuckledraggers first reaction to frustration wouldn't always be violence. It really is pathetic.

Oh yeah.... bought a coca cola at half time (did buy an IPA as well),surprised they gave it to me with the cap screwed on. Said to some Norwich fan "this is a missile", and of course Angus Gunn got stuff thrown at him.

That bloke and his mates didn't look hard enough to be wearing Stone Island jackets and offering it out.
If I'd seen him getting a little slap I'd probably have had a little smile and thought "that you will teach you", but he looked in a really bad way, hope the bloke makes a full recovery. Looked like a serious head injury.
No way any Norwich fans should be blamed for violence though, Sheffield United fans leaving early to wait outside the Norwich end and storm an exit gate... police incompetence.

everytime I've ever bought a soft drink from the bar in the Barclay it's always given to me with the cap screwed on, not that I'd ever consider using it launch at someone, but we definitely do give drinks out with the cap on it

Whilst I hope the fans are okay, and in no way say anyone deserves to get hurt in this way, or say it was their own fault, sometimes you have to be a bit streetwise. Theres a time to keep your head down and say nothing. A lot of young lads have grown up in a very safe and sanitized era in football where, thankfully, things like this are no longer the norm. These young lads playing at being hard on instagram really have no idea what it meant to be hard through the 80's and 90's.
There are away games I won't wear colours to, and just want to get the game watched and get home as quickly as possible. Should it be that way? No, of course it shouldn't. But it is, and you have to keep yourself safe.
This reminds me of a thing a few years ago, as young lad in a green morph suit was giving it the big come on to opposing fans at an away game, as soon as he steps out of the ground, and lets face it, he was hardly inconspicuous, some of the fans he was giving it large to spot him, and someone sticks one on him. Sometimes you really just have to have a bit of common sense.

So sad to hear of the violence, brings back bad memories of many dangerous away days I went on years ago.
BUT..so happy with the performance and result and delighted to be proved wrong, as I was beginning to lose faith even after the two clean sheets, I know thats weird, I too didnt think we would come away with anything yesterday, I should know better.
Still early days though of course, but we looked much better yesterday, at last the back four is being protected and the team is working together to defend, something basic we have rarely been doing, consequently there is no microscope on any indivudual having a bad game because nobody in the back four was exposed, it wasnt perfect but much better...."for sure" the return of Klose has helped (even despite the nutmeg),but defending well as a team is the key difference in my humble opinion. We also played less sideways balls and appeared to be playing at a higher tempo when we could, and dare I say that Jerome's movement really helped too, sure he didnt score but his impact on the way we play really contributed to this result too.
A great result in the context of the season so far, now lets start gradually raising the bar and expectations....
