The thing is, if you do spend £100m and still go down, you aren't necessarily in a terrible place as long as a few of the players you've brought in are clearly the best of the bunch across the course of the season and have shown enough to interest one of the 17 sides who stay up (or one of the 3 that goes up).

Two lots of £40m+ parachute payments covers a lot of that spend. Flog one of the better signings to bridge the gap. And you should in theory still end up with a squad better than the one that you went up with, the hard bit is then successfully yo-yo'ing. It looks like Ipswich may have cracked that nut. Our problem is our poor track record of appointing coaches though, if Clement walked after relegation 1 I'd have little faith in us being able to keep hold of him or successfully replace him at first attempt.
Exactly, I hate looking at Ipswich with any envy…but looks like they may well stay up.

They're only four points above the relegation zone, their next next games are Bournemouth, Spurs, Villa then Coventry. There's no doubt they're making a bit more of a go of things but there's a long way to go yet and I'm hoping that at some point Palace and Sunderland might get their acts together

The 3 points masks how poor City were for much of the game, Watford are dire yet still managed to double their away goals tally yesterday. Cordoba is a liability and Grimshaw should have done better with both goals, wouldn't surprise me to see more wholesale changes on Tuesday with Vlad returning.
