This one is won. Next five games could still turn it into a successful season. Play offs is very acceptable.

Wouldn't be confident of beating any of the other playoff teams as things stand. That said its usually the team that deserves it least that wins them so perhaps there's hope still

But at least Geoff Horsfield won't be in the play offs.

The binners lost 2-0 at Rotherham so only 4 points now and they come to CR in a few weeks time. Watford away will be more difficult though. Our goal difference is also 3 above theirs now.

As easy a victory as we are ever likely to get;   easier than millwall.

Need to build on this on tuesday.  COYY

Watford go to Brentford on Tuesday, so something has to give there. The Binners must have a slipping feeling as they prepare for a tricky match against Sheffield Wednesday. Fingers crossed all around, as Frankie McAvoy would say!  ;)

formation was a clear 4141 with BJ deep and redmond,  howson hooper wes from right to left,  i mean right to middle.

It got a bit congested in the middle at times as bj pushed forward,  grabban dropped deep and wes came in from the left.     Good inter-movement between the 4 as for hoopers middle goal so attacking wise it looks like a good option.

As you would expect from 70% possession we were completely in control,  and any dangerous moments cam from overconfidence, indiscipline or arrogance on our part.

Downsides,   BJ not really the deep cm libero and his lack of getting or staying in position will cause us problems against the better teams.  We dont have a left option - wes was ok today - when he came central - I know shock.    At times the mid 4 were slow in working back lost possession which again better teams will exploit.   Hooper was great today,  working off  a good grabban as part of the midfield - not sure if that will work when we need to be tighter.

Progress,  with slow signs that the new system is being adapted to, but still plenty to work on. Based on todays efforts I would start on Tuesday

                    Tettey

Redmond Howson Hooper BJ

If dorrans signs i can see tettey, redmond hooper dorrans BJ next sat.

A quick word on andreu - didnt have much time to shine in a game that was already over,   but his work rate was seriously impressive and he is not afraid to shoot.   I can see him pushing Hooper or howson hard for their starting place quite quickly.  He will not be a lone striker.

Oddest thing is CamJam.   Second game on as a sub when apparently injured - didnt move like he was and why risk him today when the game was already won?

That line-up would be about right against Charlton, which will be a far harder nut to crack. Thanks for the info on Andreu.  :)

Is there signs of a style and pattern? Hard I know, against the bottom club, to be sure but if there is I'm happy. Always going to be teething troubles and no matter how bad the opposition is, they will have moments in the game.

Just back. Apologies for the length of this!

Ok, so Blackpool were seriously dire, but as the old adage would have it, you can only beat what's in front of you. The teams at the bottom of this league are seriously poor - Millwall, Huddersfield and now Blackpool have all been frankly awful.

The team seems to be setting up consistently as a 4-1-4-1 format. AN seems more comfortable with one up front but being seriously supported from the flanks and attacking midfielders. It is an attacking mindset, but I was concerned with how hooper was likely to fit into it as he isn't able to play up top on his own and hadn't really convinced me previously as a supporting AM (think back to how isolated Wh were up front against Brentford!)

So, notwithstanding how bad the opposition was, today was a strong, professional and thoroughly competent display I thought

We are beginning to look a bit more secure at the back. Bassong looked fine for the brief period he played - i was one who never wanted him back but I can't deny he is our best centre half when he is on form. I do like the way he always drops off to give an easy pass to the other defenders, reducing the need to hump it forward. Martin was solid (if occasionally a bit too over confident) and Whittaker was good I thought after a dodgy first 5 minutes. Olsson got forward lots and was never rally under pressure defensively. Turner did equally well when he came in, especially dominant in the air.

in midfield I thought BJ was reliable. I noticed today that his passing seems so much more assured this season than in previous years...probably I guess because he gets that second or so more more time to think about it, but at this level he is a very good sitting midfielder. I always am glad to see Howson in the team...I just think we are a better side with JH in it. He is mobile and drives us forward well. Wes was excellent. I can't remember seeing him work quite that hard before...maybe our new signing has him worried! He drifted in a lot as usual, but given how little pressure Olson was under defensively that wasn't a problem today...but would be against better opposition. But his industry and skill were undeniable. Is he too much of a luxury against better sides though? Time will tell in this formation....

Redmond had the beating of his full back time after time and scored a beautiful free-kick - I think he is gaining confidence wee after week at the moment.

Hooper scored 2 good goals and finished the penalty with the minimum of fuss. The second goal particularly was a great finish to a team move. He linked nicely with the midfield, although I was surprised he played the whole 90 as he always looks knackered by the hour mark! But a really nicely taken hat-trick and he looks close to being back to his best. Grabban I felt really sorry for today...worked harder than usual, missed a sitter, set up chances for others and began the passage of play for Hoops second goal. The lad really needs a goal...even one to go in off his arse..but the two fuds who sit by me giving him nothing but abuse every week really enjoyed the fact the he missed a sitter!

Much of the passing was quick, intricate, accurate and incisive which I was really please to see. I know there was loads of space to play through and we might not have as much luxury against better sides, but having listened to canary call on the way home I cannot believe the negative numpties I had to listen to on there!!!

So, for me a decent 4 goal win against admittedly awful opposition, with some signs that slowly but surely we are beginning to see an evolving pattern under our new manager, who seems to be impressing his expectations on the players. If we could pick up three pints at charlton on Tuesday, next Saturday could be a cracker.

But 10 points from 5 games - not bad....not bad at all!
